Šilheřovice combines a 98-hectare English park, distinctive buildings and a varied landscape. Rare trees grow in the park, which is also home to a hunting lodge. The park also contains the 9-hole Rothschild Academy and several bodies of water. This creates a destination where culture, walking trails, nature observation and golf can be combined within a compact thematic area.

Castle Park with Distinctive Landscape Features

A central attraction is Zámek Rotschildů. It was built between 1787 and 1815 in a Romantic historicist style. A circular trail several kilometres long runs around the entire Šilheřovice Castle Park. The park contains the artificially created ponds Podzámecký and U loveckého zámečku, as well as Lake Evelinino jezero. Podzámecký and U loveckého zámečku are artificially created ponds, whereas Evelinino jezero is a lake. These different bodies of water complement the rare trees of the English park and give the grounds several recognisable landscape features. This makes it possible to experience the bodies of water, rare trees and hunting lodge together as distinct stops within the same park area.

Černý les and Protected Nature

Černý les is characterised by a natural beech population. The Černý les I and Černý les II nature reserves were designated in its area in 1970. From Šilheřovice Castle, Černý les can be reached via a green-marked hiking route. The circular trail runs around the Castle Park, while Černý les is characterised by its natural beech population.

The avenues around the Castle Park also contain a remarkable feature: the critically endangered hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) occurs there.

Church and Historical Details in Šilheřovice

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is part of the town’s cultural history. It was built in 1713 by the Jesuit College in Opava. A restored stone tombstone from the late 16th century is set into its exterior wall. In addition, the church received three bells in 1764 from the workshop of the Opava bell founder František Stanke. These specific dates and craft-related details make a visit to the church a complement to the larger castle and park complex.

In addition to nature and culture, Šilheřovice offers two specifically described golfing options. The publicly accessible golf course can be played without taking the so-called Green Card skill and knowledge tests. The park also contains the 9-hole Rothschild Academy, where complete beginners can also play. This allows visitors to add a sporting activity to their stay without advanced playing experience being required.
