Budišovice

Budišovice combines a clearly recognizable historic village center with forest landscapes, former stone processing and a cycling route. At its center stands the Chapel of St. Vitus, which is regarded as a surviving architectural landmark of the village. History, landscape and cycling shape different sides of the village: the chapel and other memorial sites are followed by forests with former quarries, while Cycling Route 6141 connects Budišovice with Hradec nad Moravicí, Pustá Polom and Hrabyně.

Chapel, Monuments and Memorial Sites

The Chapel of St. Vitus was built in 1873 on the site of an older wooden chapel. In its vicinity, in the center of Budišovice, there is also a public green and rest area designated for this purpose. Two war graves lie near the chapel. Several different historical points of reference are therefore concentrated in this location, although they do not represent the same period or function. The Sühnekreuz Smírčí kříž stands by house number 66. It dates from the 16th or 17th century and complements the village’s more recent memorial signs with a significantly older testimony. Monuments from 1920 and 1945 commemorate the victims of the world wars. The chronological span thus extends from the early modern period through the construction of the chapel in the 19th century to the 20th-century memorial signs. The chapel, Sühnekreuz and monuments represent different historical layers of the village.

Slate, Quarries and Forests

The processing of slate is also part of the village’s history. In Budišovice, the material was processed from 1830 to 1940 into roofing materials, electrical insulation boards and decorative objects. These specific uses show slate as a material with various functions, not merely as part of the landscape. Remains of former slate, basalt and natural stone quarries have been preserved mainly in the forests around Budišovice. A flooded quarry is located directly in Budišovice. The forests around the village are visited by tourists and mushroom pickers in summer. In the broader regional context, the interconnected woodland areas in the valleys of the Studnice and Porubka rivers form part of the green belts close to Ostrava. Within the village, therefore, a flooded quarry lies directly in the built-up area, while the remains of other former quarries have been preserved mainly in the forest.

Budišovice on Cycling Route 6141

Cycling Route 6141 runs from Hradec nad Moravicí via Pustá Polom and Budišovice to Hrabyně. Budišovice is therefore located on a connection linking several places between its starting point and destination. The route first leads from Hradec nad Moravicí via Pustá Polom, then through Budišovice and onward to Hrabyně. The village is thus part of both a historic, forest-dominated setting and a specific route for cycling travelers.
