Bravantice between Castle, Church and Ponds

Bravantice combines a distinctive historical heritage with a landscape that can be explored in both peaceful and active ways. At its centre is Zámek Bravantice, a fortified aristocratic residence first mentioned around 1570. The complex was probably converted into a single-storey Baroque chateau in the second half of the 17th century. This means that two clearly distinct historical phases meet in one place: the older fortified complex and the later Baroque design.

A second cultural focal point is Kostel sv. Valentina church in the centre of Bravantice. It was added to the list of cultural monuments before 1988 and is considered one of the oldest churches in the surrounding area. Inside are two historic bells, cast in 1632 and 1691. For a culturally focused trip, the church therefore offers not only a visible architectural monument but also tangible evidence from several centuries.

Tradition, Art and Paths by the Water

Local tradition is particularly evident in the Valentinská pouť. It has been celebrated annually in Bravantice on 14 February for more than 200 years. Since 2023, artistic plein-air events have also been held at Zámek Bravantice. The term refers to events where art is created or presented outdoors. Castle history, religious tradition and contemporary art thus stand alongside one another as different ways of engaging with the history of the place.

The pond complex near Bravantice is also part of the character of the place. It is used for fish farming and fishing. The Kravařsko long-distance cycle route runs along the western shore of the ponds. Those looking for a landscape and cycling perspective during their stay will therefore find a different way of experiencing the area than by visiting the historic buildings. The two focal points can be weighted differently when choosing accommodation: the church is in the centre of Bravantice; for a planned cycling tour, the route along the water is an important point of reference.

Several bus routes connect Bravantice with Nový Jičín, Ostrava, Studénka, Bílovec and Jistebník. The connections are integrated into the Integrated Transport System of the Moravian-Silesian Region, ODIS. The nearest railway station is in Studénka, on international railway corridor No. 270. There are further railway stations in Bílovec, on a regional line, and in Jistebník. When searching for a suitable hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether your trip is focused more on the castle and church, on the pond complex and cycle route, or on arriving by bus and train.
