Bílov – Lookout Tower, Church and Hubleska

Bílov combines historical traces with views, waterscapes and trails. The Church of St. Lawrence represents the history of the village, the Bílov lookout tower provides a specific high point, and the area around Hubleska offers destinations for walks and cycling tours. The educational trail and hiking route run along or around the Hubleska water reservoir, while the cycle path passes through Bílov.

Church of St. Lawrence and Local History

The Church of St. Lawrence was originally made of wood. Between 1709 and 1731, it was rebuilt in stone. Today, the church is a protected cultural monument and has been protected as a historic monument since 3 May 1958. The change of material, the rebuilding and the protection status mark three different aspects of the building in terms of time. The present stone structure thus refers to a reconstruction, while the heritage protection describes the building's later treatment.

Lookout Tower with a Precise Elevation Point

The Bílov lookout tower is a prominent destination. The viewing platform is 26.25 metres above the ground; the tower itself is 62.50 metres high. An external steel staircase with 137 steps leads to the viewing platform.

Hubleska: Water, Forest and Notable Buildings

In 2001, the municipality of Bílov built the small “BÍLOV-HUBLESKA” water reservoir. In the extensive Obora Hubleska, there is a villa commissioned by Jindřich Salcher, one of the founders of the MASSAG factory. Above the villa, a revitalised pond lies in the Hubleska grove. The villa was associated with Jindřich Salcher, the former owner of the Massag company, and is now a residential building.

Another water-management structure is the Paseky water reservoir. It is a flow-through reservoir with an earth dam, an outlet facility and a safety spillway. The flow-through reservoir, earth dam, outlet facility and safety spillway define the technical aspects of this water-management structure.

Cycling and Hiking Trails Around Bílov

The 25-kilometre-long cycle route No. 6039, “Rodištěm S. Freuda”, passes through Bílov. An educational trail with Stations of the Cross runs from the Hubleska water reservoir through Bílov towards the chateau and museum in Studénka. A red-marked hiking route from Bílovec to Fulnek runs around the Hubleska water reservoir. The distinguishing features of the three routes are found in different places: the cycle route has a fixed length and number, the educational trail has Stations of the Cross and a direction, while the hiking route has red markings and connects Bílovec with Fulnek.

At the exit from Bílov towards Fulnek stands the Boží muka wayside shrine. In spring, “Jarní otvírání vody” also takes place at the Hubleska water reservoir. The event includes fishing competitions and is attended by locals as well as visitors from elsewhere.
