Velké Albrechtice

Velké Albrechtice lies in a valley on the Bílovka River, southeast of the town of Bílovec. The village combines a layered history with a landscape that can be explored by bicycle and, in winter, on cross-country skis. During your stay, you can therefore choose between cultural monuments in the village, cycling routes through the surrounding area and opportunities for fishing nearby.

Church, Cemetery and Traces of the Village's History

A prominent cultural landmark is the late Gothic Church of St. John the Baptist. It dates from the first half of the 15th century and is listed in the state register of monuments. Its tower houses two bells from 1505 and 1508. The church building received a new vault in 1820. The cemetery perimeter wall next to the church also has a 16th-century core and is up to 3 metres high in places.

The local cemetery also contains a war memorial erected in 1923. Its artistic design was created by the academic sculptor Engelbert Kaps from Saubsdorf. Another distinctive feature is the Tomb of the Sedlnický family of Choltice: it is designed as a wall with two coats of arms of the Sedlnický family of Choltice and eight tombstones of members of this noble family. Velké Albrechtice thus offers several different historical points of interest rather than focusing on a single structure.

Water Castle Archaeological Site

The history of the village also includes the archaeological site of the Velké Albrechtice water castle, which is listed as a cultural monument. The pond at the site is a remnant of the former moat. The water castle was probably built to protect a trade route that ran through the Bílovka Valley and fell into disrepair at the end of the 15th century. It is precisely this combination of landscape and historical function that makes the site interesting: the valley was not only a natural setting but probably also an important transport corridor.

Cycling with Several Route Options

Velké Albrechtice lies on cycle routes 6190 and 6011. The Kolem osmnáctého poledníku circular cycling route also passes through the village. This circular route is 47 kilometres long and includes 780 metres of elevation gain. Climbs near Tísek and Čavisov open up views of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and the Ostrava Basin. The location and surrounding terrain are suitable for cycling trips; at the same time, the different routes allow you to tailor your research according to route length, elevation gain or landscape views.

The hills above Velké Albrechtice also offer views of the Beskids. In winter, the surrounding terrain is suitable for cross-country skiing. For fishing, the nearby Setina trout fishing area and the Jamník and Bílovka waters are options. Běh Velkými Albrechticemi is a 10-kilometre running event organised by the local sports club.
