Černousy – Cultural Heritage Site, Pond and River Landscape

Černousy combines a remarkable historical ensemble with aquatic and natural areas that allow for very different ways of exploring the region. At the center is Zámecký dvůr Černousy. Dubový rybník and the Meandry Smědé protected area also give the village and its documented natural profile distinctive points of interest.

Historical Ensemble with a Distinctive Architectural History

Count Filip Josef Clam-Gallas had Zámecký dvůr Černousy built in 1793, probably on the site of an older similar structure. The complex served as the administrative seat for the northern part of the Frýdlant estate. This history makes the courtyard a specific destination for anyone who wants to learn not only about the landscape during their stay, but also about the region’s historical organization.

Since 1958, the Zámecký dvůr Černousy complex has been an immovable cultural heritage monument. At the same time, its present form reflects different uses: One of the two granaries was converted into a covered riding arena. A multifunctional hall was created in the second granary, and it was named the 2015 Monument of the Year in the Liberec Region.

Another cultural point of reference is the Church of Saint Lawrence in Ves (Černousy). It is a Late Gothic church and complements the secular architectural history of Zámecký dvůr with a religious example. The Late Gothic church and the 1793 courtyard thus represent different periods in architectural history.

Pond, Riverside Trees and Protected River Nature

Dubový rybník in Černousy covers an area of 12 hectares and is one of the largest and oldest ponds in the Frýdlantsko region. It is accessible at any time and free of charge. Exceptionally impressive specimens of English oak and red oak grow along the dam. The pond therefore offers not only a measurable landscape feature, but also a clear natural contrast to the historic architecture.

The Meandry Smědé protected area preserves a stretch of river with a natural riverbed, developing meanders, and oxbow lakes. It also protects forest, aquatic, wetland, and floodplain ecosystems with near-natural communities, as well as numerous legally protected plant and animal species. For travel planning, this natural aspect offers a different perspective from visiting historic buildings: the focus here is on river formations, wetland habitats, and the diversity of protected species.
