Pertoltice – Church, Village Museum and Rural Cultural Heritage

Pertoltice combines sacred history, rural architecture and evidence of the local past within a small area. Those who wish to plan a stay filled with cultural discoveries will find not merely a collection of individual attractions, but different insights into the history of the settlement: from the church on the hill to a historic farmstead and the remains of a former fortress.

The Church of St. Jost on the Hill

A distinctive landmark is the Kostel sv. Jošta. It stands on a hill in the northern part of the settlement and is therefore also clearly associated geographically with this section of Pertoltice. The church was founded in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, it underwent a Baroque renovation and extension.

The first mention dates back to 1346. At that time, the church was entered in the parish register of the Diocese of Meissen. This makes it possible to trace a long historical period at this site: the written mention dates from the 14th century, while the present architectural development is also shaped by the Baroque alterations of the 18th century.

Village Museum and Regional Life

The Pertoltice Village Museum focuses on several areas that bring the character of rural life to light. Its themes include agriculture, folk architecture, as well as food and gastronomy. This gives visitors access to the activities, architectural forms and aspects of everyday life that shaped village life.

The museum offers guided tours with a guide. From April to October, it is scheduled to be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; visitors are also expected to announce their visit in advance by telephone at 737 056 464. Anyone wishing to include the museum in their plans can therefore treat a guided tour as a separate cultural stop and take the scheduled visiting hours into account.

Haslerův dům: Timber Framing and Preserved Interiors

A special part of the open-air museum is Haslerův dům, a two-storey half-timbered house from the late 18th century. The building belongs to a rural farmstead designated as a cultural monument.

In particular, the interiors of the upper floor have been preserved in their original form. A black kitchen is also still functional.

Further Historic Sites in Dolní Pertoltice

Opposite house no. 6 in Dolní Pertoltice stands the cross of Lorenz and Magdalena Schwind. It is a cast-iron cross on a sandstone pedestal, erected in 1883. Its exact location and the materials used give this individual monument a clearly identifiable local character.

West of the church in Dolní Pertoltice, only the remains of the residential building no. 194 survive from the former fortress.

Discovering Pertoltice’s Culture

The sites can be selected according to different interests: Kostel sv. Jošta represents the area’s long ecclesiastical history and its Baroque transformation, while the village museum focuses on agriculture, folk architecture and regional aspects of everyday life. Haslerův dům complements this picture with timber framing, original interiors and the functioning black kitchen. The cross and the remains of the former fortress, in turn, lead to individual historic sites in Dolní Pertoltice.
