Discover Skuchrow
Skuchrow combines impressive distant views with visible traces of regional history and paths through a varied landscape. Particularly appealing is the interplay between viewpoints, the villages of Skuhrov and HuntĂĹ™ov, and the natural and cultural areas on the edge of the municipality. If you are planning a trip with children, you will find both peaceful opportunities for discovery and active trails and winter routes.
History between Skuhrov and HuntĂĹ™ov
In the upper part of Skuhrov stands the Špýchar granary. Today, only a corner section of the surrounding walls remains visible. The granary was built in 1832 as a grain store and was intended to help prevent shortages. The surviving wall therefore not only marks a historic site, but also points to the former importance of storing supplies.
In the lower part of HuntĂĹ™ov, below the fire pond, stands the Chapel of Saint VojtÄ›ch. Its construction was a prerequisite for the village’s first pilgrimage. HuntĂĹ™ov’s more recent history is also present: the first glass pressworks were established there in 1865, and the Tyl theater association was founded in 1889. Thus, in Skuchrow you encounter several different facets of local development – from the granary and pilgrimage to glassmaking and community life.
Viewpoints overlooking the mountain landscape
The southern part of the municipality extends into Maloskalsko Nature Park. In addition, a small peripheral area of the Český ráj UNESCO Geopark extends into the municipality of Skuhrov. These two protected and recreational areas shape the landscape setting without reducing Skuchrow to just a single attraction.
Several places on the northern side of Skuhrov offer distant views of the Giant Mountains, part of the Jizera Mountains, JeštÄ›d and Kozákov. A well-maintained viewpoint above Skuhrov also looks out towards Kozákov, Maloskalsko, Sokol and the Kopanina ridge. Near the KĹ™ĂĹľ towards Skuhrov, there is a covered seating area, an information board about the municipality and information panels describing the viewpoint. Play elements for children make this place interesting for a shared break, even when people have different interests.
Hiking and cross-country skiing on circular routes
For active days, a circular route with viewpoint benches passes several prominent points: Jerdovka above HuntĂĹ™ov, Alšovská Road below the cemetery in Skuhrov, NácĹŻv Hill below the water tower in Skuhrov and SkĹ™ib in HuntĂĹ™ov. The route thus connects viewpoints and landmarks from both villages.
In winter, Skuhrov’s groomed cross-country ski trail network adds to the range of activities. It forms a circular route through the municipality and branches off via Hamrštice in PÄ›nÄŤĂn towards Kopanina, Dupanda in Alšovice and ÄŚerná Studnice. For getting there, the municipal transport information lists bus route 530842 between Jablonec nad Nisou, Skuhrov, HuntĂĹ™ov and Ĺ˝eleznĂ˝ Brod. This allows Skuchrow’s scenic, cultural and sporting attractions to be viewed as different focuses of a trip.
