Koberovy – Rock labyrinths, castle ruins and trails in Český ráj

Koberovy combines impressive sandstone landscapes with viewpoints, traces of history and marked trails. Between the rock labyrinths of Besedice, the Zbirohy castle ruins and the routes through the Jizera Valley, you will find a variety of reasons to stay in Český ráj. Depending on your preferred itinerary, nature experiences, culture or cycling can take centre stage.

Sandstone labyrinths and viewpoints

Along the southern and western edges of Sokol Mountain, the Besedice Rocks form two sandstone labyrinths: Kalich and Chléviště. In the Chléviště area, narrow ravines and rock shelters lead through the landscape; numerous viewpoints offer views across the Jizera Valley. The Kalich rock labyrinth consists of five ravines. One of its distinctive features is an altar carved into the rock, with a chalice and the year 1638.

A marked circular trail, Kolem Besedických skal, is six kilometres long, follows a paved road and offers views of Kozákov, the Klokočské Rocks and Trosky Castle. This allows you to combine a stay in Koberovy with a defined route and several contrasting landscapes, without separating the themes of nature and culture.

Zbirohy Castle Ruins and Hamštejn Observation Tower

The Zbirohy castle ruins were built on Zbirohy Rock in the 14th century and are located within the administrative area of Koberovy. The residential tower is nicknamed Kazatelnice. The castle ruins are freely accessible all year round and add a historic destination to the rock landscape.

In good visibility, the Hamštejn Observation Tower offers an almost complete panoramic view of the rock towns of Český ráj and towards Trosky. The steel-and-wood observation tower is 25 metres high; its viewing platform is approximately 22 metres above ground level and can be reached via 121 steps. For planning purposes, this location provides a clear contrast to the narrow ravines and sheltered rock hideaways of Chléviště.

Marked routes through Koberovy

Cyclists can also find documented connections through the municipality. One marked cycling route passes the chapel in Besedice, continues via Michovka to Zbirohy and on to the castle ruins there. Another marked cycling route through Koberovy ends in the Jizera Valley, where it connects to the Greenway Jizera.

For longer routes, a ten-kilometre section of the Zlatá stezka Českého ráje runs through Koberovy and continues via Hamštejn to Kozákov. The different route lengths help you plan your day according to your preferred focus. The Lesní běh Kalichem was held at the Areál Kalich Besedice in Koberovy in 2023 as its 46th edition and again in 2024.
