Cycle route and views above the Nisa

The international Odra–Nisa cycle route runs from Nová Ves nad Nisou to the Baltic Sea and is 591 km long. This gives you a long-distance cycle route with a clearly stated length for planning your trip, without having to commit to the entire distance. The Nisanka lookout tower on Novoveský vrch is a distinctive viewpoint. It opened on 5 May 2007 and gives the landscape experience a specific destination.

Since 2008, the New Year's ascent and the spring festivals held in May as part of the celebrations of the Nisa River have taken place regularly at the lookout tower. Anyone wishing to combine culture and regional traditions with a cycling tour or a stay in the mountains will therefore find not only the structure itself here, but also recurring events throughout the year.

Hiking to the source of the Nisa

The 12.5 km Smržovský vyhlídkový okruh route leads, among other places, to the source of the Nisa and through Nová Ves. Its specific length helps you distinguish this circuit from the considerably longer international cycle route. The source of the Nisa in the territory of Nová Ves nad Nisou is designated as a significant landscape feature. The circuit thus combines a designated natural feature with the village landscape.

Churches and local culture

The Catholic Church of Panny Marie, Pomocnice křesťanů in Nová Ves nad Nisou dates from 1935. It retains its original furnishings and has stained-glass windows. Since the late 1990s, local volunteers have occasionally organised concerts there in addition to regular services. The Protestant Gustav-Adolf Church also dates from 1935. Both churches add different religious and historical testimonies to the excursion destinations.

Meadows, wetlands and protected plants

On Horní Černá Studnice, the Květnatá louka in the municipality of Nová Ves nad Nisou is home to more than 60 meadow plant species, including specially protected species. The wet meadows are home to, among others, the broad-leaved marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis), heath spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii), lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica), bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata), tussock cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum), common cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium) and marsh marigold (Caltha palustris).

The Prameništní rašeliniště spring mire includes birch stands and wet meadows with endangered plant species. These include arnica (Arnica montana), broad-leaved marsh orchid, fragrant orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea), round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), common cottongrass, heath spotted orchid and Homogyne alpina. The protected Novoveský javor memorial tree has been designated in Nová Ves nad Nisou since 2010. Next to it is a rest area with seating, a climbing frame for children and beautiful views of the surrounding area.
