Discover Woleschnitz

Woleschnitz combines a distinctive foothill landscape with winter sports, cycling trails and notable cultural monuments. The municipality stretches along the slopes beside the Zlatník stream; its upper part lies within the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area. As a result, forests and agricultural land, historical evidence and concrete opportunities for active holiday days come together here.

Landscape between Forests, Meadows and Mountains

The Zlatá Olešnice Landscape Character Area is defined by its foothill landscape. Forests and land used for agriculture are in a relatively balanced relationship, including meadows and pastures. At the same time, a relatively high proportion of buildings representing the original vernacular architecture has been preserved in this area. Those who value a rural setting when choosing accommodation will find a village landscape here shaped not only by nature but also by traditional building forms.

At 826 metres, Javorník is the highest mountain in Woleschnitz. Together with the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area, it gives the village a clear connection to the mountains, without restricting the landscape to a single type of holiday.

Cycling and Winter Sports Right in the Village

Well-marked cycling trails pass through Woleschnitz, including the Járy Cimrman cycling trail. For a stay focused on cycling, there is therefore a specifically designated route at its centre. During the winter season, the Zlatá Olešnice ski resort offers a 500-metre red ski run and an easier 750-metre blue ski run. There is also a 95-metre rope lift for children.

The local ski school teaches children and adults to ski and snowboard. For families, the clear distinction between the runs and the dedicated facilities for children are particularly important parts of the winter sports options available. The ski resort is located almost in the centre of the municipality, while the cycling trails and landscape shape the warmer months in a different way.

Châteaux, a Church and Traces of History

In the Návarov district stands the small Baroque manor house of Návarov, surrounded by an extensive park. Návarov Château and its park are designated as a protected cultural monument. The ruins of Návarov Castle provide a different historical focal point. They are the remains of a castle probably founded in the 14th century; remnants of walls and traces of cellar rooms have survived to this day.

The Roman Catholic Church of St Martin is a protected monument of Baroque architecture and a defining landmark of Woleschnitz. The Baroque building was erected between 1780 and 1783 by the builder Antonín Teumer. The church stands on a steep slope atop a high masonry base—an eye-catching architectural detail that explains its position in the village landscape.

Following in the Footsteps of Antal Stašek

Another cultural highlight is the birthplace of the writer Antal Stašek in Stanový. The building is a cultural monument with a half-timbered structure and a wooden-shingle roof. The local library is currently also located in the birthplace. Antal Stašek was born on 22 July 1843 in Stanový, in the foothills of the Giant Mountains.

The historical walking route “Zlatoolešnicko” begins at Návarov railway station. It first follows cycling route 4248a and then continues along a green-marked hiking trail to the birthplace of Antal Stašek in Stanový. The house probably dates from 1765. In this way, the route brings together several forms of local history without reducing the individual stops to a mere list of sights.
