Churches, Procession and Regional Traditions

In Janov nad Nisou, the Kostel svatého Jana Křtitele church was built from 1800 to 1811 according to plans by the Liberec architect Würfl. Inside, there is a Neo-Renaissance interior decoration from 1883 by E. Meininger. In Loučná, the Kostel svatého Josefa church was built in 1914 and 1915 according to plans by the Jablonec architect Robert Hemmrich; six stained-glass windows with Neo-Renaissance ornamental frames are part of its furnishings.

The Křížová cesta also has a clearly documented history: it was built in 1878 on Josef Klamt’s property and consecrated in 1903. During Noc kostelů, the Kostel svatého Jana Křtitele church opens to the public in June with an accompanying program. The Janovský jarmark also takes place every year in June, combining traditional foods with handicraft goods.

Viewpoints in the Jizera Mountains

The stone Královka lookout tower is 23.5 meters high, and 102 steps lead to its top. From above, you can see the Jizera Mountains, the Krkonoše Mountains, Český ráj, the Ještědský hřbet ridge and Jablonec nad Nisou. This makes the tower a prominent destination for anyone who wants to experience the landscape not only from the trail but also from an elevated perspective.

Other distinct landscape destinations include Trniště, a rocky viewpoint with a viewing platform equipped with a railing, and Skalní hřib. This granite rock formation lies above Loučná, to the left of the road to Jindřichov.

Hiking, Cross-Country Skiing and Special Activities

Janov nad Nisou is a suitable starting point for hikes in the Jizera Mountains. At Janovských 11 a 19 km, participants choose between an 11-kilometer running course and a 19-kilometer hiking march; the event takes place on the last Saturday in October each year. The two distances represent different ways of spending an active day.

In Hrabětice, there is an access point to the Jizerská magistrála with parking for 110 vehicles. From Janov nad Nisou, you can join the Jizerská magistrála cross-country ski trail there. Hrabětice also offers the Severák ski area for alpine skiing. The bobsled track in Janov nad Nisou has its own special character: on a carousel, the bobsled makes a 450-degree turn. The bobsleds are equipped with rubber wheels, safe and easy to operate, so even small children can use them.
