Cetnov between the reservoir, cycling routes, and history

Cetnov is located on the Skalka Reservoir along the Ohře; Cetnov is one of the places situated on its banks. Cycling along the Ohře

There are two specific route connections to consider when planning a bicycle trip. From the junction near Klest, a 1.5 km detour on cycle route 2063 leads to Cetnov. In addition, cycle route 257 runs along the shore from Bříza via Cetnov to Skalka. Cetnov can therefore be included in your daily itinerary either as the destination of a clearly defined detour or as part of a lakeshore route. The different route options help you determine the desired focus of your trip.

Archaeological traces of a long local history

Northeast of Cetnov, on the left bank of the Ohře, lies the Cetnov–Vlčí vrch archaeological site. It is classified as an immovable cultural monument as well as a prehistoric settlement and burial site with archaeological traces. Cetnov is also one of the polycultural archaeological sites on the northern shore of the Skalka Reservoir that were inhabited from the Late Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. For travelers interested in culture, the landscape here is linked to a documented history spanning several eras.

The first written mention of Cetnov dates back to 1221. A vessel from the younger Merovingian period, an early medieval era, was also found in Cetnov. These two references supplement the site's archaeological significance with its documented local history.

What remains of the former fortified site

Cetnov's fortification tower was dismantled after the village fire of 1892 and has not survived. However, an old well with a granite basin and the year 1510 remains at the former fortified site. A distinctive structure has disappeared, while a tangible relic at the historic site still points to the former fortifications.
