Einsiedl: historical traces and circular trails

Einsiedl combines historical traces with circular trails where you can connect culture, landscape, and regional features. The area around Mnichov is particularly interesting: here, Baroque buildings meet old pilgrimage traditions, overgrown chapel ruins, and springs that have been associated with the village for centuries.

Baroque buildings in Mnichov

The Baroque Church of St. Peter and Paul in Mnichov was built in 1725. Together with the Baroque town hall, it conveys a vivid impression of the historic village center. The town hall was built in 1730 and features a bell tower, stucco decorations, and a pillory. The two buildings emphasize different aspects: the church represents the history of sacred architecture, while the town hall, with its preserved architectural details, also reveals the secular side of the village.

The second circular trail is five kilometers long. Its five information boards provide information about the local history and natural features of this part of the Slavkovský les. In direct comparison, the Siardova kaple–Mnichov educational trail is 0.5 kilometers shorter; at the same time, the five-kilometer trail has its own focus on the connection between history and nature. If you want to plan your excursion according to the length, this difference provides a clear basis for your decision without reducing the two trails to the same character.

Chapel, pilgrimage, and spring

An old chapel is located in the valley of the Mnichovský potok west of Mnichov. It was a pilgrimage site visited by processions from the surrounding area. The ruins of the former Church of St. John the Baptist near Mnichov, also known as the Siardova Chapel, are freely accessible. The Siardova Chapel was built in the 12th century by the Saxon knight Siardus (Sieghartd); only ruins overgrown with vegetation remain. The former Schöpplův mlýn is the final stop on the educational trail.

Another historical trace leads to the Siardův pramen spring, which is also known as Svatá studna. Since the 17th century, the Siardův pramen has attracted people because of its healing water. In 2023, the Siardův pramen near Mnichov received a new roof. The name Svatá studna and its long-documented use give this place a distinctive connection between the landscape and regional history.

Mineral water and natural features

In the area around Mnichov, you can taste mineral water at Grünská kyselka on the Mnichovské hadce educational trail. This detail complements the historical stops with a specific regional feature.
