Franzensbad combines the atmosphere of a traditional spa town with expansive parks, springs, museum history and destinations for excursions in the surrounding area. Spa Town with UNESCO and Museum History

Franzensbad is one of the eleven spa towns that make up the serial UNESCO World Heritage Site “The Great Spa Towns of Europe”. This classification points to the special significance of European spa towns and gives the city a clear cultural focus. The current exhibition at the Městské muzeum Františkovy Lázně offers a deeper insight into this background. It documents the history of the spa town from the discovery of the Františkův pramen spring through the 20th century, as well as the local architecture and the development of balneological methods.

The Městské muzeum Františkovy Lázně also displays historical views of the spa town, a wooden conduit for the Františkův pramen spring dating from the mid-18th century, and the original “František” statue by Adolf Mayerl from 1923.

Park Paths, Colonnades and Springs

The parks of Františkovy Lázně now cover more than 250 hectares. Dozens of kilometres of park paths run through the grounds and are suitable for walks around the spa town. The orange Srdíčková Route is 2.2 km long and passes the colonnades of the Solný spring and Luční spring.

The Soos National Nature Reserve is located in the vicinity of Františkovy Lázně. There, a 1.2-km educational trail leads through peatlands and wetlands and across the bed of a former lake with mineral water. This natural area provides a clear contrast to the landscaped parks of the spa town. When choosing your excursion destinations, you can therefore distinguish between historic spa-town settings and a landscape shaped by geological features and wetlands.

Cultural Programme and Destinations in the Surrounding Area

The Divadlo Boženy Němcové offers an extensive programme of plays, operettas and concerts. Guest ensembles and a local amateur theatre company also perform there regularly. The town’s cultural profile therefore includes not only its museum history but also a varied programme of stage performances.

Further excursion destinations are located at varying distances around Františkovy Lázně. The Komorní Hůrka hill and the Zlatý vrch hill are nearby. The Church of St. Michael in Bad Brambach is located in the area around Františkovy Lázně.
