Třebsko – Archaeology, Church and Pilgrimage Route

Třebsko combines a remarkable archaeological site with a historic church, a distinctive organ and a pilgrimage route through several places. Archaeological Heritage at Hrádek

The most important historical destination is Třebsko Hrádek, a rectangular rampart from the Late La Tène period. The site probably belonged to the type of Celtic quadrangular sacred enclosures. It was previously considered a military camp from the Thirty Years’ War – an interpretation that clearly distinguishes the site’s present-day archaeological character from its earlier interpretation.

The site lies on the slope of the Na hrádkách hill above the right bank of the Hrádecký-Třebský potok stream. The earthwork forms a rectangle measuring 96 × 67 m. The accompanying ditch is approximately the same depth; on the best-preserved side, the built-up rampart is more than 2 m high. The first written mention of Třebsko dates from 1367.

Church, Organ and Concert Culture

Another prominent landmark is the parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It stands on a rise at the southern edge of Třebsko and is one of the concert venues of the Antonín Dvořák Music Festival. Here, the church interior, local history and music come together in a shared cultural setting.

The furnishings include the organ by Gotthard Welzel, now located in Třebsko, which was transferred to Třebsko in 1960 from St. Anne’s Church in Kostelec nad Orlicí. Built in 1703, the organ has façade pipes with ornamentation unique in Bohemia, as well as impressive acanthus carvings. Those who particularly appreciate historic details will find a concrete reason here to plan a visit to the church not only as a point of orientation in the town, but also as a cultural experience in its own right.

Pilgrimage Route and Regional Orientation

The pilgrimage route from Březnice to Svatá Hora passes through Chrást, Třebsko and Příbram. It is listed as 20.5 km long, with a moderate elevation difference. The route connects several places over 20.5 km and is therefore more than a short walk around the town.

For regional orientation, bus line 567 connects Příbram, Třebsko and Rožmitál pod Třemšínem. The corresponding timetable has been valid since 14 December 2025.
