Vystrkov Between the Vltava Riverbank and History

Vystrkov combines a distinctive waterside landscape with an unusual number of historical layers. The Kozárovice–Vystrkov hillfort site lies on a wooded, steep-sided peninsula on the left bank of the Vltava, or Orlík Reservoir, and beside the flooded valley of the Hradeňský Stream in the former settlement of Vystrkov. This location gives the place a clear character: natural surroundings and settlement history are closely connected here, without requiring you to focus on just one type of travel experience. Its early origin and the mention dating from 1088 place the site within a long historical arc; its possible connection to Přemyslid rule remains open as a historical interpretation.

A Second Historical Layer at Orlík Reservoir

A much more recent history is represented by the Vystrkov recreation complex. It was originally designed as a retreat for senior officials of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and was built in the forests on the left bank of Orlík Reservoir around the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. Construction of the recreation complex was completed in November 1963. This historical layer may be of interest when choosing where to stay if you want to place not only the landscape but also the history of socialist Czechoslovakia in context.
