Srbsko on the Berounka: Hiking, Cycling and Karst

Srbsko lies on both banks of the Berounka, 6 km southeast of the royal town of Beroun. The village is situated in a basin surrounded by limestone cliffs and directly within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. For planning your trip, its location combines river, karst and several routes of varying lengths.

Karst, Waterfalls and Limestone Cliffs

The Bubovice Waterfalls are located nearby. In dry years, they may remain dry for longer periods; in winter, spring or after rain, they are particularly impressive. The Karlštejn National Nature Reserve contains world-famous Paleozoic geological profiles and paleontological sites in natural outcrops and those created by quarries. There are also above-ground and underground karst formations. The traditional Srbsko – levý břeh climbing area lies on the banks of the Berounka in the valley between Beroun and Karlštejn; climbing routes on walls, slabs and overhangs predominate there.

Hiking Trails with Different Focal Points

The Srdcem Českého krasu educational trail is a 9 km hiking route of moderate difficulty. It leads from Srbsko past the Bubovice Waterfalls, through Boubová, Propadlé vody and Hostim, and along the Kačák to its confluence with the Berounka near Kozel. The educational trail has 12 original and 6 new information panels, as well as 3 entrance panels and various interactive, playful and educational elements. In this way, the route combines physical activity with specific information about the landscape.

Cycling Route and Trail along the Berounka

The Geological Educational Trail is a 39 km cycling route of moderate difficulty. It includes 17 stations and leads from V Kozle via Srbsko to Koda, Tobolka, Kobyla and Zlatý kůň, ending in Suchomasty. The order of the stations is not fixed; you can decide it yourself or choose only part of the route. Another option is the approximately 12 km Po stopách českých králů educational trail. It runs along the Berounka between Srbsko, Beroun and Králův Dvůr and is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.

Local History and Limestone

The development of Srbsko is also connected with limestone quarrying. Srbsko was first mentioned in written records in 1482. The accounts of Karlštejn Castle report that a fisherman from Srbsko bought part of the forests. The first limestone quarry was opened in 1882 by the J. Tomášek company. Today, a new footpath provides access to the banks of the Berounka and safely connects the individual parts of Srbsko.
