Chaloupky – Reservoir, Brdy and Valdek

Chaloupky combines local history with distinctive landscapes and excursion destinations in the Brdy area. The Záskalská Reservoir borders the village directly, while nearby Jindřichova skála is a natural monument with a rock wall up to 21 metres high. Historical traces, paths through the forests and winter activities give the village several different points of interest for planning a trip. The village therefore appeals not only through a single viewpoint, but through the combination of water, rock, forest and history.

Reservoir and nature in the Brdy area

The Záskalská Reservoir borders Chaloupky and also serves as a fire-fighting reservoir. Swimming and sport fishing are possible there as leisure activities. The water is therefore one of the village’s specific points of interest, without replacing the other landscape experiences. Walks in the Brdy area are also among the leisure activities associated with Chaloupky. Water-based activities and paths through the Brdy area can thus be viewed as different focuses.

Near Chaloupky, a marked hiking trail leads from Malá Víska to a viewpoint at Jindřichova skála. From there, the ruins of Valdek Castle can be seen. The surrounding forests are used for mushroom picking in autumn. The trail thus combines views of a distinctive rock wall with forest scenery and a seasonal nature experience.

Hiking routes and viewpoints

One specific hiking option is the 17-kilometre “Za pány z Valdeka” route. It begins and ends in Chaloupky. The fixed starting and finishing point provides clear orientation when planning a longer day hike; the route length makes the scale of the trip concrete and helps you set aside a full day for it. The Stezka okolo Komárova is also one of the excursion routes associated with Chaloupky.

The ruins of Valdek Castle, together with the mighty stone sea below them, form a distinctive landscape feature. From there, a beautiful view opens over the deep valley of the Červený potok and the opposite rock walls of Jindřichova skála. Historical traces, rocky scenery and views are therefore found directly alongside one another. A car park is available in Neřežín for visits to the ruins of Valdek Castle. The Neřežín district also has four particularly valuable log-built houses.

Local history, an event and traditional houses

The first written mention of Chaloupky dates from 1648. At that time, the settlement was called “Chalupy za Skalou”; this name and the names of its first inhabitants are recorded in a tax register compiled between 1648 and 1656. The local history therefore reaches back to the 17th century and forms a distinct part of a stay alongside the present-day landscape.

The village’s local character also includes the Chaloupecká stopa, an annual local tourism event. In addition to its landscape and history, the village is therefore associated with a recurring tourist occasion. Cross-country skiing and other winter sports are also practised in the surroundings of Chaloupky as winter activities. Seasonal pursuits thus complement the options around trails, viewpoints and the reservoir.
