Újezd

Újezd combines a heavily forested landscape with small historical discoveries, events and good connections to the surrounding area. More than half of Újezd’s area is forested. As a result, the forest shapes the character of the place just as much as its history, which is visible in several locations. For families who enjoy switching between nature, culture and special local sights during their holiday, Újezd offers a range of different points of interest. The forest shapes both the surroundings of the Doubravka site and the route to the partisan bunker.

Forest paths, history and the Doubravka site

A prominent destination lies about 1.5 km west of Újezd near the Doubravka forester’s lodge. The Doubravka fortified site is a well-preserved, circular castle site with a diameter of about 14 metres. There are no recognizable wall remains there; however, the site is surrounded by a ditch and rampart. Here, a castle site does not refer to a fully preserved castle, but to a former fortified site of which mainly the terrain structure has survived; the circular shape, ditch and rampart make this structure visible. The approximately 14 metres refer to the diameter of the circular site, not to the height of a building. It is precisely this preserved form that makes the site an unusual historical trace in the wooded surroundings.

Újezd itself was first mentioned in written records in 1399, at that time under the name “Oujezd čtyř konšelů”. Another historical connection leads to the former partisan shelter. It has been filled in; a memorial now stands in its place. A blue-marked tourist route continues along a forest path to the partisan bunker. At the partisan bunker there is a shelter with benches and a spring.

Chapel, events and community life

The local history also includes the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was opened and consecrated on 9 July 1899. It was commissioned by Jiří Štefan, who came from House No. 6.

The summer dance venue adds a different accent to the village landscape. Every year, it hosts mainly rock concerts as well as cultural and sports events for children. Bus and train connections

Direct bus connections run from Újezd to Prague and the surrounding villages. The railway connection is via the nearby Cerhovice railway station. The two connections therefore have different points of reference: buses run directly to Prague and the surrounding villages, while the train connection is via Cerhovice.
