Háje: History, Hiking Trails and Geological Traces

Háje combines local history, marked hiking trails and an unusual geological site. The Czech locality therefore offers various ways to explore it: you can learn about its development, rural architecture, the history of former mining activities or the paths through the surrounding area. This also creates a varied mix of culture, landscape and activity for families.

A Place Name with a Long History

The name Háje refers to the settlement's origins in an old grove. In 1653, the settlement name was shortened to Háje. The designation “vsí novou na Hájích” is documented for the year 1603; the same designation also appears in the oldest church register of Slivice from 1636. These early records are among the oldest chronological reference points in the locality's history.

The former school building in Háje dates from 1907. Individual cottages along road II/118 and around the former school represent the locality's original rural architectural style. Those passing through Háje therefore find not only a starting point for trails, but also architectural traces of the village's development.

Another historical feature is the former uranium mine, Shaft No. 16 Háje–Věž. In 1975, it was considered the deepest mine shaft in Czechoslovakia, or the republic of that time. The industrial history thus stands alongside the older written records and the preserved rural architectural forms.

Marked Trails Through and from Háje

Three marked hiking trails give Háje different roles in a tour. The Příbram–Svatá Hora–Háje–Smolotely trail passes through the locality. A second marked route runs from Příbram via Za Lukama, Háje, Kácíň and Horní Líšnice and also passes through Háje. On both connections, the locality lies along the route between additional stops.

The third route begins in Háje and leads via Spálený and Velká Leč to Obory. Háje is therefore on the way for two trails, while one route starts here. This distribution helps you distinguish between a stay during a longer connection and the beginning of a hike in the locality. Geological Site and Present-Day Orientation

A distinctive landscape feature is the Háje geological site. It consists of a flat, abandoned quarry measuring approximately 40 × 40 metres. The wall is 2–3 metres high, with small surface outcrops also present. This manageable scale distinguishes the site from large-scale landscape areas and complements the locality's historical themes with an insight into its geological character.

A multi-purpose sports field has also begun operating in Háje.
