Příčovy between the Castle and Windmill Ruin

Příčovy combines a castle with a technical ruin and marked trails. This makes the village suitable for a trip in which historic architecture, landscape and activity stand side by side. Příčovy Castle is the cultural focal point, while the ruin of the Příčovy Windmill offers another perspective on the village’s history. One destination represents a historic building, while the other is a technical monument that shapes the landscape.

Příčovy Castle is a single-storey building with a double mansard roof. This roof form clearly distinguishes the building from the circular windmill ruin. The castle is normally not open to the public. A regular tour of the castle therefore cannot be planned; separate opportunities to visit the chapel are available at specified times.

The Příčovy Windmill on Chlumky Hill

Chlumky Hill rises to an elevation of 400 m west of Příčovy; from there, the ruin of the Příčovy Windmill overlooks Příčovy. It is a massive circular structure with a diameter of 14 m and forms a clear focal point in the landscape. The grounds of the Příčovy Windmill are freely accessible in summer and winter. This means that the ruin can be planned as a specific part of a visit regardless of the season chosen.

The ruin of the Příčovy Windmill is a unique technical monument of its kind in the Czech Republic and a Dutch windmill that once ground flour. During a visit, its striking shape, location on Chlumky and former function come together. The ruin thus represents a historic working world, while the castle, with its roof form, provides an architectural contrast. Today, the ruin defines the hill, while its former use explains the historical background of the structure.

The two historic destinations appeal to different interests: at the castle, the form of the building takes centre stage, while at the windmill, the focus is on the combination of technology, landscape and former use. When planning your visit, you can therefore focus on architecture or on the freely accessible grounds of the technical ruin.

Marked Trails for Cycling and Hiking

Two marked connections complement the historic destinations. Cycling route 8133 runs between Sedlčany and Chramosty via Příčovy and is intended to remain an existing route. This places Příčovy on a specific cycling connection between these locations. The yellow-marked hiking trail from Příčovy to Kňovičky uses existing local and designated paths. Cycling and hiking therefore follow different lines and can be considered separate active experiences.

Special Times for Visiting the Castle Chapel

The castle chapel has its own visiting arrangements. During Holy Mass at the Příčovy pilgrimage, 14 days after Easter, it can be visited on Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. Another opportunity is available during the Advent concerts, every Advent Saturday from 4:00 p.m. For planning your trip, two clearly defined occasions are therefore important: the pilgrimage 14 days after Easter and the Advent concerts during Advent. The chapel cannot therefore be treated as a regular destination independently of these dates.
