Rosenau: Wallachian Culture, Crafts and Nature Experiences
Wallachian History to See and Experience
The Dřevěné městečko was opened to the public in 1925. It features a historic square with original wooden buildings, most of which were relocated here from the Rožnov market square and the surrounding area. You should allow approximately 50 minutes for your visit; you can explore it independently or join a guided tour.
The Valašská dědina presents everyday life in a Wallachian village from the late 18th century through the 1950s. Most of the buildings are originals that were relocated here from their former locations. An entertaining search activity and themed materials on domestic production and traditional handicrafts complement the tour. In the Valašská dědina area, you can also sample traditional Wallachian dishes, including kyselica, halušky, frgály and bramboráky.
In the Mlýnská dolina, you can experience a functioning open-air complex whose buildings and facilities are powered by mountain water and human labor. There, you can see a working water mill, sawmill and fulling mill. At the forge, you can observe how a blacksmith worked. The Slabikář řemesel program also gives children and other interested visitors the opportunity to try practical activities from traditional crafts and take their finished work home.
Active Excursions and Special Experiences
For a cycling tour, the Bečva Cycle Path continues from Valašské Meziříčí to Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. A large part of the cycle path runs along newly built sections where motor traffic is prohibited. The Valašský golfový klub in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm has a public 9-hole course with a spacious driving range, three covered tees, and a putting green and chipping green. The course is also open to golfers without a Green Card.
A distinctive destination is the Jurkovičova rozhledna on Karlův kopec. The observation tower was built in 2012 based on drawings more than 100 years old and consists of stone as well as traditionally worked and carved wood. The tower is 31.09 m high, with the observation platform at a height of 18.8 m. From the parking area at the Valašské muzeum v přírodě, you can reach it on foot in about 30 minutes via a wooden footbridge and the green-marked hiking trail.
The Hradisko educational trail runs through an area of significant importance for nature conservation within the CHKO Beskydy. The circular trail is 3 km long, takes approximately 2 hours and has 9 stations. It leads to the summit of Hradisko, where the ruins of a castle can be found, and has an elevation gain of 160 m. It is marked with the symbol for educational trails: a white square with a green stripe.
