Valašské Příkazy lies in a valley between the Vizovice Highlands and the White Carpathians. Easter Customs, History and Regional Characteristics

A distinctive local tradition is the Easter-related “ščukotání”. School-age boys walk through the village with “ščukotávky” and “tragači”, replacing the daily ringing during the “flight of the bells to Rome”. The custom is one of the notable cultural details of Valašské Příkazy, distinct from the natural experiences in the surrounding area.

The village’s history stretches far back: the first written mention of Příkazy dates from 1503. A chapel built in 1968 stands in the village centre. The oldest building in Valašské Příkazy is an inn on the main road dating from 1829.

The distilling tradition is also part of the region’s identity. From 1750 onwards, the distilleries in Příkazy held the lordly privilege of distilling slivovitz and borovička. One of the distilleries is still known for producing high-quality slivovitz.
