Nedakonice: Floodplain Forests, Cycle Paths and Folklore

Nedakonice combines the protected floodplain landscape of Kolébky, the Nedakonický les floodplain forest area, cycle paths and vibrant culture. Floodplain Landscapes and Cycle Paths

The Kolébky Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral area of Nedakonice. It protects an elm floodplain forest with a diverse tree composition and stands of different ages. Rare amphibians, reptiles, insects and birds occur in this protected area. Thus, the focus is not merely on a forested landscape, but on a habitat with different animal groups and remarkable diversity within the floodplain forest.

Another natural area is Nedakonický les. It comprises extensive floodplain forests with former river channels and provides habitats for wetland and aquatic plants and animals. The area is also a habitat of the bitterling. The two landscapes have different defining features: Kolébky preserves a species-rich elm floodplain forest, while former river channels and the habitats associated with them characterize Nedakonický les.

Two cycle paths pass through Nedakonice for active days out. The cycle path along the Baťa Canal runs mostly on paved surfaces. The Baťa Canal landing stages along the route are adapted for cyclists and equipped with service facilities. The Stezka Muškátu moravského cycle path also passes through the village. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a route along the canal and another cycle path, without getting to know the village solely through its historical sights.

Church, Monuments and Local History

The parish church in Nedakonice, dedicated to Saint Florian, was consecrated on 21 October 1934. A group of statues of Saint Wenceslas stands in the park next to the Church of Saint Florian. Two further landmarks represent older historical connections: a Hussite column commemorates the famous Hussite era, and a stone sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from 1740 and stands by a bridge.

The history of the Hussites is also connected with Nedakonice. At the beginning of 1421, Moravian Taborites launched several incursions from Nedakonice against surrounding monasteries and towns. Those interested in historical connections will therefore encounter here not only individual monuments, but also an explicitly documented connection between the village and the events of that period.

Folklore and Events Throughout the Year

Local culture is not limited to buildings. “Děcka z Nedakonic” is a children’s folklore ensemble founded in Nedakonice in June 2023. It passes on folklore, dance and singing through children’s games, folk customs and scenes from the everyday lives of ancestors. The ensemble performs throughout the year with seasonal programmes for Fašank, Easter and Christmas.

Further events bring the annual cycle of the village to life. The February Fašank has a firmly established place in Nedakonice’s events calendar. In October, the Slovácké hody s právem event takes place. Fishing competitions are usually held in July as a sporting and social event. Depending on when you travel, you can experience different sides of the village: seasonal customs or an event with a sporting and social character.
