Zadní Vydří – Cycling Routes, Landscape and History

Zadní Vydří combines local history, distinctive landscape features and several specific cycling routes. The village belongs to the Telčsko microregion and lies in a picturesque landscape at the foot of the Jihlavské vrchy. Cycling routes with a variety of route profiles

Cycling Route No. 5124 runs through Zadní Vydří. Along part of its route, it shares the route with Route No. 16. This interregional Czech-Moravian Cycling Route leads from Slavonice via Dačice, Kostelní Vydří, Telč, Roštejn, Třešť and Jihlava onwards towards Polná. Zadní Vydří is therefore part of a larger network of connections linking several places in the region. Another option is the 34 km cycling circuit “Cycling Around Telč – Day 1”. It runs from Telč via Kostelní Myslová, Náglův statek, Zadní Vydří, Černíč and Nová Říše back to Telč. Another described cycling tour is “Scenic”. It leads from Telč at an elevation of 525 m via Kostelní Myslová onwards to Zadní Vydří. The section from Telč to Kostelní Myslová is listed as 5 km long, with the subsequent section to Zadní Vydří measuring 2 km. Zadní Vydří is also included in a described recreational cycling tour starting from Dačice. The 31 km circuit runs via Kostelní Vydří, Zadní Vydří, Kostelní Myslová, Telč, Radkov, Černíč and Malý Pěčín back to Dačice. The route passes through ponds, forests and quiet villages and is considered a recreational ride for cyclists who want to combine exercise with sightseeing. This allows you to choose between a longer circuit, a regional crossing and shorter sections without viewing the village exclusively through the lens of a single type of excursion.

Landscape and nature along the Vyderský stream

The Vyderský stream is one of the watercourses flowing through the area around Zadní Vydří. Along its entire length, it is a natural watercourse. This landscape is complemented by the registered important landscape feature V Kopcích, located 700 metres southwest of Zadní Vydří. V Kopcích consists of dry, acidic nutrient-poor grassland on shallow soils, along with shrub vegetation. These nutrient-poor grasslands and the adjacent woody vegetation also form an important refuge for invertebrates. Traces of local and regional history

The first written mention of Zadní Vydří dates from 1385. Originally, the settlement belonged to Šternberk Castle. In the 16th century, Zadní Vydří was known as Krajní Vydří. These three details demonstrate the historical development of the village over several centuries, without limiting its history to a single period. South of Zadní Vydří lies a Jewish cemetery with approximately 150 Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones. Most of them date from the 17th and 18th centuries.
