Dobronín: Horses, Glass and History

Dobronín is a place where a stay brings together very different kinds of discovery: encounters with horses, glass craftsmanship and a history that becomes visible at specific sites. This gives you a remarkable range of experiences, without confining the day to a single theme.

Experience Horses and Enjoy the Outdoors

In 2022, a new trail park for horses, dogs and children was set up at Ranč Ztracená podkova. There is also a public children's playground directly next to the ranch. This means there are two clearly distinct points of interest on site: the trail park focuses on engaging with horses and animals, while the playground provides space for an easy break with children.

Horses are also the subject of the Naučná stezka o koních educational trail. It provides visitors with information about horses and horse breeding and combines this information with an unusual route: a special footpath crosses the Ždírecký potok through the treetops. The educational trail is therefore not just an informative stop, but also a special way to experience the surrounding area. Rides are available at the riding hall by prior arrangement. Glass Art in the Glassmaker's House

Another side of Dobronín is revealed by the small Sklárna František Novák glassworks. It is located directly in the Glassmaker's House and specializes in producing replicas of historical glass, mostly greenish forest glass. A visit therefore does not lead to an abstract exhibition, but to a place where the craft is directly connected with the workplace. Guests can watch the glassmaker at work and thus understand how strongly the character of this stop is shaped by the practical production process. The workshop therefore combines historical models with ongoing craftsmanship: replicas and the glassmaker's work belong together in the same place.

Budínka and the History of the Place

At the Budínka locality, a massacre is said to have taken place in a meadow to the left of a field path leading from Dobronín to the forest in the direction of Nové Dvory. A mass grave dating from the post-war period was also discovered in the Budínka meadow, in the cadastral area of Dobronín. A wooden cross was erected at the site after 1989. These three indications give the place a serious historical dimension and clearly distinguish it from the active experiences centered around horses and glass.
