Měšín – Culture, Ponds and Cycle Route

Chapels and Historical Traces

On the outskirts of Měšín, on the road to Polná, stands a niche chapel. It was already marked on a plan from 1835 and is undoubtedly older. At the same time, it is registered as an immovable historic landmark under identification number 24627/7-4851. Another immovable historic landmark is a cross on the outskirts of Měšín; its identification number is 68984/7-4852. Both details show that the village’s history is reflected not only in large buildings, but also in smaller religious symbols on the edge of the settlement.

Another sacred point of interest is the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Ždírec and was built in 1770 as a rectangular structure with a hipped roof. The small belfry is topped with an onion dome. Once a year, a pilgrimage takes place at the chapel following prior announcement. When planning your trip, it is therefore important to distinguish between the permanently existing building and the event announced annually.

The Former Border Between Bohemia and Moravia

Měšín was located on the former provincial border between Bohemia and Moravia. In the past, this location often led to disputes over whether the village belonged to Bohemia or Moravia. This historical contrast gives the village a distinctive regional-historical character: Měšín can be understood not only through its buildings, but also through its changing affiliation within the Bohemian-Moravian landscape.

The Water Landscape Along the Měšínský potok

The Měšínský potok flows through the Měšín area from southeast to northwest and has several tributaries. Prostřední Pond is one of the ponds along the Měšínský potok. Its current use is also documented: from 1 January 2026, the Municipality of Měšín approved leasing Prostřední Pond to the Jihlava local branch of the Moravian Anglers’ Union for CZK 57,652 per year. The pond is therefore part both of the local water landscape and of the documented forms of land management in Měšín.
