Hybrálec – Discover the Chapel and Mining History

Hybrálec combines visible village history with traces of historic mining. The village lies in the historic Jihlava ore district and was established through German settlement in the central part of what was then the Českomoravská vrchovina. Hybrálec was first mentioned in writing in 1315 under the name Eberharsdorf. Its foundation was also connected with guarding the important trade route from Jihlava to Humpolec. Chapel of St. Wenceslas on the Village Square

One of the village’s defining buildings is the Chapel of St. Wenceslas. The late Baroque religious building, with its folk-inspired character, was erected in 1828–1829 as a dominant building on the village square. Its façade is articulated by pilasters and features a volute gable and a small roof turret. The chapel, including the plot of land, is listed as a protected monument. Thus, architectural history, architecture that characterizes the village’s appearance, and an expressly documented heritage-protection status come together in a single place.

Štola sv. Jana Nepomuckého: History and Current Restriction

Another facet of Hybrálec is represented by the Štola sv. Jana Nepomuckého, also known as Trpasličí jeskyně. It was opened as early as 1776 and, after several years of operation, reached a length of 330 metres. For your travel planning, however, the current restriction is crucial: the Štola is currently inaccessible and flooded. Its historical significance and its present condition should therefore be clearly distinguished from one another.

The route to the Štola begins at the car park near Borovinka Pond. The car park can be reached via the Hybrálec turn-off from Road No. 38; the route then continues across the pond dam and along the forest.

Circular Trails and Mining History in the Surrounding Area

For orientation across several places, the Great Tourist Circular Trail around Jihlava is of interest. It leads from Rantířov via Plandry and Hybrálec to Zborná. The Hornická naučná stezka offers a closer thematic connection to the village’s history. It runs through places with clearly visible remains of mining and brings visitors closer to the past history of silver mining in the Jihlava area. This makes it possible to experience historic architecture, local history and the legacy of mining in the surrounding area as different focal points of a trip.
