Třeštice

Třeštice combines a village square steeped in history with a clearly structured landscape of slopes, fields and forests. Those looking for a place with small cultural discoveries, marked trails and a rural setting will find several different points of interest here during their stay. At the centre is the wooden bell tower, which stands in the middle of the village square, dates from 1863 and is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the central monument register.

Historical details around the village square

The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua is a historicist, single-nave religious building oriented north–south, with a prismatic tower built into its southern side. It was constructed between 1937 and 1939 and consecrated on 2 July 1939.

A protected cross dating from 1796 also stands on the village square by the chapel. Another characteristic building is the wooden house on the village square, which is listed as an immovable cultural monument. It stands on a high masonry base and formerly housed what was known as a black kitchen. This series of small historical landmarks is complemented by a wayside shrine dating from 1858, which was completely restored in 2008.

A striking contrast to the religious and rural buildings is the statue of a Praga V3S, the legendary “vejtřaska”. It was unveiled in Třeštice on 7 September 2013. Those exploring the village thus encounter different layers of time: a cross from the 18th century, the bell tower and wayside shrine from the 19th century, the chapel and historic wooden house, and a statue unveiled in 2013.

Hiking, cycling and the landscape

The surroundings can be explored in various directions and along different types of routes. Blue- and green-marked hiking trails run along the northern edge of the Třeštice cadastral area. For cycling, cycle route 5123 between Sedlejov and Doupě passes through Třeštice. These two options offer different ways to include the village in a tour without limiting it to the village square alone.

The landscape itself also has a distinct spatial structure. The Třešťský potok stream flows along the eastern edge of Třeštice. South of Třeštice, the Třeštický rybník pond lies on the Třešťský potok stream. Slopes and fields shape the surroundings; forests lie on the horizon. When choosing where to stay, it is therefore particularly interesting to consider whether you want to focus your days on the cultural centre of the village, the trails along the northern edge, or the landscape around the stream and pond.

Bus services to Telč and Mrákotín used to run from a stop directly in Třeštice. As a specific event example, the 20th anniversary of the traditional Javořice Hiking Day took place in Třeštice on 17 May 2026. The start was at 9 a.m. at the fire station; the event was organised by SDH Třeštice. The village’s history is therefore reflected not only in its buildings and landscape, but also in documented routes and community events.
