Discover Rozseč

Rozseč combines village history with a landscape that unfolds around the village. The church, village square, cemetery, bodies of water, and cycling route reveal different aspects of the village and its surroundings.

The Church and Village Square as Starting Points

The village skyline is dominated by the church known as “Kostel Božského srdce Páně,” now more commonly called “Nejsvětějšího srdce Ježíšova.” It was built in Rozseč in 1908 on the site of an earlier chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara. The church thus reflects both the more recent architectural history of the village and an older religious site. The former Chapel of Saint Barbara belongs to the history of the same location where the church now stands.

Another glimpse into the local architectural history is provided by House No. 19 on Rozseč village square. It is an example of a representative rural façade from the late 19th century. Here, two different historical forms of expression meet: sacred architecture from the beginning of the 20th century and a representative residential house with a rural façade from the late 19th century. This makes the development of the village center visible through different building functions and periods.

Memorial Sites in the Cemetery

A central cross stands in the cemetery in Rozseč. There is also a memorial to the victims of the First World War. The cross forms a religious site of remembrance, while the memorial is dedicated to the victims of the First World War. Both stand in the same cemetery but represent different forms of commemoration.

The 1681 cross stone marks the place where ten-year-old Tomáš Chalupa from Rozseč died after being struck by a gate and succumbing to his injuries. The cross stone no longer stands in its original location: in 1962, it was moved to its present site during land consolidation. The present location therefore differs from the original scene of the event. The stone thus connects a specific event from the village’s history with a later change to the landscape.

Ponds, Streams, and the Cycling Route

The Otvrňský stream flows east of Rozseč. Southeast of the village, the Nový rybník pond lies on the Otvrňský stream. Northwest of Rozseč, the Obecní rybník pond is located on an unnamed stream that flows through the village. The two ponds therefore lie in different directions and are associated with different watercourses: Nový rybník lies on the Otvrňský stream, while Obecní rybník lies on the unnamed stream in the village.

The signposted cycling route 5092 runs through Rozseč. In addition, the second stage of the “S kolem kolem Telče” cycling tour follows cycling route 5092 through, among other places, Stará Říše, Rozseč, and Zdeňkov, continuing to Knínice.
