Suchá – Village Culture, Forest Landscape and Trails

Suchá combines village cultural history with a landscape that can be explored on foot and by bicycle. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity stands in the village square, while the Jihlávka runs along Suchá’s eastern boundary. There is also a marked hiking trail through the village, a designated cycling route along the northeastern edge of the administrative area, and extensive forest areas. This gives Suchá a range of points of interest for a trip in which nature and regional history belong together.

Village Square, River and Forest

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity stands in the village square in Suchá and is registered as an immovable cultural monument. It provides a specific cultural point of reference within the village, without requiring you to seek out a major attraction. The Jihlávka flows through the built-up area of Prostředkovice, then runs along the eastern boundary of Suchá and farther east of Beranovec, heading north. Extensive forest complexes extend into the northeastern and especially the western parts of Suchá’s territory. Anyone wishing to combine nature observation with local history during their stay will find a variety of landscape and cultural features here.

Regional History in the Renaissance Granary

Since 2023, the Renaissance granary in Prostředkovice has housed a permanent museum exhibition on the history of the Stonařovsko region, particularly Suchá, Prostředkovice and Beranovec. The exhibition also covers the history of the Imperial Road from Prague to Vienna in the section between Jihlava and Znojmo. Other topics include geology, mineralogy and mining. The perspective therefore ranges from regional places and historic transport routes to the geological foundations of the landscape.

An important restriction should be noted when planning this kind of cultural visit: the permanent museum exhibition is accessible to the public only by prior arrangement, and the building is currently being reconstructed. A visit therefore cannot be planned like a spontaneous stop at an exhibition that is open at any time.

Hiking and Cycling Around Suchá

A yellow-marked hiking trail from Špičák to Brtnice runs through Suchá. For cyclists, marked cycle route 5215, designated as the Luka nad Jihlavou–Luka nad Jihlavou circular cycle route, runs along the northeastern edge of Suchá’s administrative area. The two routes clearly differ in their course: the hiking trail passes through Suchá, while the cycling route touches the northeastern edge of the area.

Water and Regional Events

In the surroundings of Suchá, the ponds belong to Zadní Pouště; Durchák is considered suitable for swimming. Musical events also take place at “Jackova stodola” in Beranovec. On 19 July 2025, summer events with a humorous character were held at Hostinec U Štrofů for the tenth time. The original idea arose in 2015 as a small Christmas party in August.

Suchá as a Starting Point

Road I/38, which connects Jihlava with Znojmo, runs through Suchá and Prostředkovice. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether you want to focus primarily on the hiking and forest landscape, the cultural history in the Renaissance granary, Durchák or events in the surrounding area. The different focal points are located in different places and landscape areas, helping you organise your travel plans in a practical way.
