Hrbov

Hrbov combines small historical discoveries with various opportunities to explore the surrounding area on foot or by bicycle. In connection with the Chapel of Saint Lawrence, the village forms part of the municipal area of Polná. When choosing accommodation, the question here is less about a single main attraction and more about the focus you want for your holiday: water, cycling, hiking or regional history.

Water and peaceful discoveries

Gabčíkovo Pond is a specific attraction for days spent by the water. It is used for swimming by people from the wider surrounding area, including Polná. This complements the more local sights with a different type of experience. A local road in Hrbov also provides access to a natural attraction, a commemorative oak tree. This means that days spent swimming at the pond and short discoveries around the village stand alongside each other as different experiences.

Cycling and hiking around Hrbov

The KČT Cycle Route No. 16 between Česká Jablonná and Polná passes through Hrbov. The route follows paved surfaces, mainly asphalt roads, and is suitable for all types of bicycles.

Hikers will also find several specific points of interest. A checkpoint on the KČT Polná 25-km hiking route is located on the main road. One hiking route initially follows the road from Hrbov for a short distance towards Polná, then turns sharply uphill between houses at a junction. Another route descends to Hrbov via a hollow way and then continues to the village centre. The different trail sections give hike planning a clear local connection without reducing Hrbov to a single circuit. The checkpoint is on the main road, while the two routes run either uphill between houses or along a hollow way.

Chapel, cross stone and local history

The Chapel of Saint Lawrence, deacon and martyr, is located in the Hrbov district of the town of Polná and in the Hrbov cadastral area. It adds a clear cultural dimension to the landscape and trail experiences. Hrbov probably originated through colonisation in the 13th century and belonged to the Polná estate throughout the entire Middle Ages. Those interested in historical connections will therefore encounter not only a single building, but also the documented development of the village.

Another testament to the local history is the Hrbov cross stone. It is located northeast of the village at Dlouhé louky and is carved from hard sandstone. The Chapel of Saint Lawrence, by contrast, is located in the Hrbov district of the town of Polná and in the Hrbov cadastral area.
