Discover Horní Dubenky
Horní Dubenky combines impressive cultural monuments with a landscape of wetlands and extensive forests. If you are looking for a variety of experiences on your trip, the themes range from historic milling technology and late Baroque architecture to cycling routes, educational trails, local traditions and natural monuments.
The Chadimův mlýn Mill Museum
The Chadimův mlýn Mill Museum is a particularly interesting stop. Across four floors, it presents the complete equipment of a modern village mill from 1926. This allows visitors to experience the mill not only as a historic building, but also through its technical equipment. A distinctive feature is the Francis turbine, which replaced the water wheel. Visitor parking is available at the mill museum.
Church and Historical Traces
The church of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, called Kostel Českobratrské církve evangelické in Czech, is a single-nave late Baroque building with a four-sided tower. It underwent extensive restoration between 2012 and 2016. Alongside the mill museum, Horní Dubenky therefore offers an architectural destination where the building’s design and its more recent restoration history come together.
The historical traces in the surrounding area also include the remains of the Gothic Janštejn castle tower. They stand on a wooded, rocky hill between Nová Ves and Horní Dubenky. Numerous wetlands and extensive forests shape the landscape itself. Near the summit of Javořice, the Studánka Páně spring lies about 500 metres below the summit.
Cycling Routes, Educational Trail and Natural Monument
Several documented routes offer different ways to get to know Horní Dubenky and its surroundings. Cycling Route No. 5128 passes through Horní Dubenky from Jihlávka to Batelov. The Otakara Březiny Educational Trail also passes through the village. Březinova cesta leads to Horní Dubenky and continues along Bor Pond to Jihlávka.
Another specific route option is the “Od pramene řeky Jihlavy do sklárny Janštejn” route. It is 11 km long and offers several interesting stops in Horní Dubenky. The Ještěnice natural monument is also located in Horní Dubenky. When planning, you can therefore choose between a route of a fixed length, an educational trail, a cycling connection and other landscape destinations, without having to separate culture from nature.
Events Throughout the Year
Local traditions are also part of Horní Dubenky’s character. During the summer months, the “Parrésia aneb Ráj srdce a labyrint světa” gathering takes place, bringing together the Gospel and culture. The Masopust procession takes place on the weekend before Ash Wednesday. These two events have different focuses: one combines religious and cultural themes, while the other belongs to the traditional festive calendar.
