Brtnička between the Chapel, Hiking Days, and Regional Trails

Brtnička combines a prominent religious landmark with historical traces and hiking destinations in the wider regional surroundings. The Chapel of the Name of the Virgin Mary is the most significant building in Brtnička. At the same time, trails lead to landscapes, castle ruins, and sights around Brtnice. This allows you to shape your stay around a manageable village center, cultural history, and different excursion directions.

Hiking with Various Regional Focuses

A particular historical reference is the Silvestrovský výšlap Aleje 2024. It was the tenth official edition of a hiking day held on the last day of the year. For this edition, the group set off together on the last day of 2024 at 10:45 a.m. in Brtnička, at the municipal office. The event is therefore part of the documented history of the village, but should be classified as a past event.

The Údolí Brtnice Nature Reserve extends along the Brtnička stream in the wider regional surroundings. The protected area also includes the ruins of a Gothic castle. Velký Špičák also rises in the wider surroundings as a wooded hill northeast of Třešť. Marked trails lead to this hiking destination from several directions. This creates different landscape highlights for planning your day, without merging the individual destinations into a single local area.

The Brtnická Trail begins at the ruins of Rokštejn Castle, passes Výrova skála and the Šamonín pond, and continues through Brtnice. Another hiking route around Brtnice leads into the valley of the Karlínský potok, which is also called Brtnička. You therefore encounter the name in different regional contexts: as a stream in the nature reserve and as another name for the Karlínský potok. The Brtnická Trail also follows a circuit through Brtnice to the Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hoffmannův dům, Valdštejnův dům, the monastery, church, and monastery garden, Brtnice Chateau, and Židovský most.

Chapel of the Name of the Virgin Mary and Local History

The present-day Chapel of the Name of the Virgin Mary is a Neo-Gothic building erected around 1933. A cast-iron cross stands at the entrance. Before the present-day chapel, there was a chapel of the Most Holy Redeemer; this earlier chapel was built in 1790. The transition from the older chapel to the present-day Neo-Gothic building gives the village center a clearly recognizable historical sequence.

The furnishings of the present-day chapel also have their own historical significance. On May 21, 2000, a new bell was consecrated; it was cast at the workshop of Marie Tomášková-Dytrychová in Brodek u Přerova. Together with the cross at the entrance and the building’s history, the chapel can be viewed not merely as an individual building, but as a concentrated cultural focal point in Brtnička.

Another Aspect of the Village

Brtnička also has a motorcycle track. Successful motorcycle racer Roman Novotný trains on this track most frequently. Alongside the historical and landscape-related themes, this adds a sporting aspect to the documented profile of the village. When choosing your excursions, you can therefore distinguish between quiet cultural associations, regional hiking trails, and this motorsport connection, without reducing the village to just one type of experience.
