Panenská Rozsíčka between the Source, Nature, and Local History

Panenská Rozsíčka combines a clearly defined landscape with a surprising amount of local history. The Moravská Dyje rises in a meadow between forests, two kilometres north of Panenská Rozsíčka, below Hřeben Hill at an elevation of 653 metres. This precise location connects the source with the landscape around the village. Depending on the season, snowflakes, primroses, daisies, carnations, and a yellow iris bloom at the source. Around the school and in the village square of Panenská Rozsíčka, there are around eleven stately lime trees. The natural setting thus extends from the source meadow into the built-up area of the village.

Traces of Local History

The oldest known mention of Panenská Rozsíčka probably dates from 1351. From 1538, part of Panenská Rozsíčka belonged to the Nová Říše Monastery, while the other part, together with Bezděkov and Stejští, belonged to the Vencelík estate of Třešť. A school was also established in Panenská Rozsíčka; the new school building was consecrated on 31 October 1909.

Penzion Dyje was created through the extensive renovation of the local school building. Cast-iron crosses are also part of the village’s history: a cross on a granite pedestal was erected in 1851. In the lower part of Panenská Rozsíčka stands a similar cast-iron cross on a granite pedestal, bearing the chiselled year 1864.

Art at the Source of the Moravská Dyje

At the source stand the sculpture “Jarní studánka” and the blue-and-white tree sculpture “Zrození.” Together, they form the first station of Kristkova podyjská glyptotéka. This is an artistic pilgrimage route created by Lubo Kristek in 2005–2006, with sculptural stations across the Czech Republic, Austria, and Slovakia. The source near Panenská Rozsíčka is therefore also part of this three-country route.

Hiking and Cycling with Clear Points of Orientation

For planning your excursion, there are two clearly distinguishable connections to the source. Near Panenská Rozsíčka, a green-marked hiking trail leads from Třešť to the source of the Moravská Dyje. Cycle Route 5091 passes through Panenská Rozsíčka and then continues for 2.1 kilometres to the source. The hiking trail therefore begins in Třešť, while the cycle route first passes through Panenská Rozsíčka and only then continues for 2.1 kilometres to the source. The starting points and routes thus differ, even though both paths reach the same source area. On foot, you can follow the connection from Třešť; by bicycle, the village itself is part of the route. At the source, the meadow between the forests, the seasonal plant life, and the two sculptures come together. A trip there therefore combines nature observation and art: the source area can be the destination of a hike or part of a cycling tour. The green trail marking and route number 5091 provide the two connections with additional points of orientation.
