Klatovec: Zhejral Natural Area and Cultural Traces

Klatovec combines a remarkable natural area with trails through the Javořice landscape and an unusual artistic history. Natural Area at Zhejral Pond

Rare animal and plant species have been recorded there; in addition, around 500 butterfly species have been documented in the Zhejral area. The focus is therefore not only on the water surface, but on a diverse habitat that defines the natural character of the surrounding area.

Educational Trails beneath Javořice

The northwestern slope of Javořice lies within the cadastral area of Klatovec. The educational trail “Poznej kraj pod Javořicí” runs through the area of the Zhejral National Nature Monument and through a Natura 2000 site. The route opened on 7 November 2007 and offers two overlapping circular trails. The shorter option includes the first five stations, while the longer circular trail connects all nine stations. This clear distinction helps you plan your day: you can choose between a more compact circuit and the complete sequence of all stations without confusing the two routes.

Art History in Klatovec

A second side of the locality can be seen at Klatovec No. 26. This is where the former rural atelier and outdoor gallery of the artist couple Míla Doleželová and Jiří Mareš are located; they are considered a cultural monument. Both lived and worked in the rural house during the 1960s. The cultural monument was designated in 2023 and is also a destination on the “Po stopách malířky Míly Doleželové” route. The route thus connects the memory of the painter with a specific place in Klatovec, without equating the house’s historic use with a present-day atelier function.

Memorial Site at Studánka Páně

Studánka Páně is also among the documented destinations in the surrounding area. A stone table still stands there today, commemorating the secret religious services of the Bohemian Brethren during the Counter-Reformation. This site adds a layer of religious remembrance to the natural and artistic themes.
