Ryjice: Sanatorium History and Hiking Trails
Ryjice: Sanatorium History and Trails into the Surrounding Area
Ryjice combines a distinctive sanatorium history with described hiking trails to Blansko Castle and onward to Neštěmice. This gives you two different approaches when planning your trip: you can follow the town’s historical traces or incorporate Ryjice into a hike via the marked trails.
The Former Sanatorium in Ryjice
Construction of a workers’ sanatorium called “Sanatorium pro plicně choré” began in Ryjice in 1895. The sanatorium’s first pavilion was named “HELLENENHEIM” and opened in 1902. The two years mark the decisive early steps in the complex’s development: first the beginning of construction, followed by the opening of the first pavilion. If you are interested in the history of the town, this sequence provides a concrete starting point for learning about Ryjice.
The former sanatorium complex in Ryjice is a state-protected cultural monument. Its present-day status is therefore just as much a part of the town’s history as the names and dates associated with its origins. When choosing your accommodation, you can take this historical focus into account if you would rather structure your stay around cultural history than around route planning alone.
Blansko Castle and the Descent to Ryjice
Blansko Castle adds another historical destination to your travel plans. Blansko Castle was formerly also known as Blankenštejn and was founded at the end of the 14th century. The ruins of Blansko Castle preserve remains of the castle palace, as well as remnants of bastions and the tower. Blansko Castle remains open to the general public. This excursion therefore combines a clearly dated founding history with surviving parts of the former castle complex.
A marked hiking route descends from Blansko Castle to Ryjice via the yellow trail. The hiking trail via Blansko Castle continues through Ryjice to Neštěmice and ends there at a public transport stop in Ústí. If you would like to plan your route not only as a circular hike but also with another destination and public transport at the end, this route is an important reference point.
A 4 km Return Route
A 4 km return route described as part of the NPÚ excursion leads from above Ryjice via the green trail to Neštěmice and public transport. This route complements the yellow trail with a precisely specified section and also describes a different starting point: it begins above Ryjice and continues along the green trail. For your day planning, you can therefore distinguish between the route descending from the castle to Ryjice and the 4 km return route starting above the town.
