Košťany: Ore Mountains, family experiences and historical traces

Košťany combines landscapes, family-friendly experiences and traces of local history. A considerable part of the cadastral area lies in the Ore Mountains, while several documented destinations lead directly into the history and surroundings of the town. This creates an interesting mix of active routes, shorter walks and cultural discoveries for your travel planning. The Ore Mountains and a green trail for families

The location in the Ore Mountains, known as Krušné hory in Czech, defines the landscape around Košťany. The green trail in Cyklopark Košťany is intended for children, beginners and families. This allows you to combine your stay with an experience that explicitly caters to different age and experience levels, without having to choose a more challenging trail. The green trail complements the themed route to flooded mines and glassmakers with its own opportunity to be active together.

A route with clear planning information

The “Za zatopenými doly a skláři” route begins and ends at Mírové náměstí in Košťany. Its theme, referring to flooded mines and glassmakers, is already reflected in its name. It is particularly aimed at children aged five and over. One important restriction should be taken into account when choosing it: this route is not suitable for families with prams. If you are travelling with children of different ages, you can therefore consider the green trail and this route as two separate options and take the age recommendation and the pram restriction into account. The starting and ending point at Mírové náměstí also makes orientation easier when planning the day, as the route starts and returns to the same place.

The hunting lodge as a destination for a shorter walk

The Lobkowicz family hunting lodge is located 1 km north of Košťany’s square. The access route leads via “K zámku” Street in Střelná. The hunting lodge is suitable as a destination for shorter walks, but it is currently not open to the public. It should therefore be included in outdoor orientation and walk planning, not in plans for a public interior visit. The surviving torso of the Ludvíkův dub oak is also worth a visit.

Local history on the “Zmizelé Košťany” walk

Those who want to learn about Košťany through its past will find a specific point of reference in the “Zmizelé Košťany” walk. Stop 12 identifies the Church of Vyzdvižení sv. kříže. The church was built in 1859–1861 in the Pseudo-Romanesque style. The walk thus combines a specific historical site with a precise construction period and an architectural classification. For a walk focused on cultural history, the church is therefore a clear stop between local history and architecture.
