Kresin: Ohře, Culture and Cycling Routes

Křesín lies in a bend of the Ohře, combining a clearly distinctive landscape with a remarkable density of historical traces. The area extends into the Dolní Poohří Nature Park. If you would like to combine nature, culture and outdoor activities during your stay, you will find a range of options here: a river landscape, historic buildings, cycling routes and an educational trail.

Landscape and Orientation

The Lovosice–Libochovice–Louny railway line runs through Křesín. The village is also situated on a road connecting the former castellated castles in Žatec and Litoměřice. This historic connection gives the location its own cultural context, without reducing Křesín itself to a single attraction. In Křesín and the local district of Levousy, there are three restaurants, two grocery shops and a bakery offering savoury and sweet pastries. This means you can also get to know the local area through its everyday amenities.

Culture and Historical Traces

The Kostel sv. Václava in Křesín is central to the village’s history. The church dates from the first half of the 14th century, is mentioned in written sources together with the rectory as early as 1362, and has Gothic origins with preserved Romanesque elements. The predecessor of the mill in Křesín is also documented for the year 1362. In the 1830s, the archaeologist and ethnographer Václav Krolmus also lived in Křesín. These points illustrate different historical layers of the village: sacred architecture, the history of the mill and the connection to a figure in regional research.

Above Levousy are the remains of a Slavic hillfort with partially visible ramparts. The remains of the 13th-century Šebín Castle or medieval fortification are also located there. For an excursion focused on history, this allows the local history and older fortifications in the same wider region to be considered together.

Cycling and Paths along the Ohře

The Ohře Cycling Route, one of the four main cycling routes in the Ústecký kraj, runs through Křesín. The Okolo Lovoše cycling route also passes through the village in the order Levousy–Křesín–Klapý. For walks and nature observation by the water, the Koštice–Křesín educational trail follows the Ohře, passing through Želevice and the wetlands near Koštice.

Practical Options on Site

If you are considering spending the night outdoors, you can camp by the banks of the Ohře or at the local sports ground by arrangement with the municipal office. The restaurants, grocery shops and bakery in Křesín and Levousy are also available for planning the rest of your stay. This leaves the focus of your visit open: you can put historical discoveries, paths by the water, cycling or the landscape of the Dolní Poohří Nature Park at the centre of your trip.
