Hrobčice between Church Architecture and the Family Trail

Hrobčice lies on the Syčivka stream. The Church of St. Gallus stands on a hill in the southeast and dates from the second half of the 13th century; Romanesque windows have been preserved in both walls of the nave. On the grounds of the former manor stands a Renaissance gate bearing the Rausendorf coat of arms and the year 1579. The Hrobčík Goblin Trail follows a circular route through the southeastern part of the village and is equipped with fairy-tale figures and play elements.

St. Gallus and Historical Traces

The Church of St. Gallus in Hrobčice dates from the second half of the 13th century. Romanesque windows have been preserved in both walls of the nave. The church complex stands on a hill in the southeast of Hrobčice. At St. Gallus, the early dating of the sacred building, a preserved Romanesque detail and its elevated position within the village come together.

The history of the village also includes the Hrobčice fortress grounds. They had a circular layout and were fortified by a wall and a moat. The Hrobčice fortress is first mentioned in 1589, although it had been built considerably earlier. On the grounds of the former manor, a Renaissance gate bears the Rausendorf coat of arms and the year 1579. Between the church architecture and the traces on the fortress and manor grounds, a span of time emerges: the Romanesque windows belong to the church, the gate with its coat of arms and date to a later Renaissance design, while the fortress had already been built considerably earlier. The years 1579 and 1589 are therefore close together in time.

The Hrobčík Goblin Trail

The Hrobčík Goblin Trail begins on the outskirts of Hrobčice near the Church of St. Gallus. It forms a circular route through the southeastern part of Hrobčice, passing the church below Horka Hill in the direction of Mrzlice before returning to the kindergarten settlement. As a walking route for families with children, the trail is equipped with fairy-tale figures and play elements. Its connection with the church provides a fixed starting point, while the figures and play elements add a playful dimension. The return to the kindergarten settlement marks the end of the loop.

Landscape and Further Orientation

Hrobčice stretches along the Syčivka stream. In the České středohoří Highlands, the Štěpánovská hora natural monument near Štěpánov protects one of two steppe clearings with rare plant and insect species. The protected landscape area provides a different focus from the church architecture, fortress grounds and Goblin Trail. The rare plant and insect species give the landscape a natural-history focus. The Hrobčice area is also easily accessible via signposted cycle paths.

From the outskirts near St. Gallus, the trail leads below Horka Hill in the direction of Mrzlice and then returns to the kindergarten settlement. Signposted cycle paths provide another way to reach the Hrobčice area. The Štěpánovská hora natural monument near Štěpánov protects one of two steppe clearings with rare plant and insect species in the České středohoří Highlands.
