Holedeč: Baroque History and Routes toward Džbán
Holedeč combines a multifaceted village history with landscapes and routes on the edge of Džbán Nature Park. Those looking for a place to stay with cultural monuments, forest paths, and regional discoveries will find a range of themes here for planning their trip: from the Baroque Church of St. Bartholomew to the sandstone landscape of Na Pískách.
Churches, Chapels, and Traditional Architecture
The Church of St. Bartholomew is a central historical landmark. It burned down in 1737 and was rebuilt in its present Baroque form. In addition to the church building, the entire listed complex includes the surrounding wall and the mortuary chapel. The Church of St. Bartholomew in Holedeček has been documented in writing since 1346, offering a glimpse into the long history of the local sacred landscape.
Remarkable landmarks can also be found in the local districts and along the connecting routes. The Baroque niche chapel at the Veletice–Stránky crossroads is a listed monument. In Stránky, the chapel with a bell was also entered on the list of state-protected cultural monuments. The listed house with barn No. 36 is a 19th-century farmhouse with a wooden veranda and documents the traditional folk architecture of the Žatec region.
Na Pískách and Routes through the Forest
Na Pískách refers to a sandstone plateau landscape northeast of Holedeč, on the northwestern edge of Džbán Nature Park. The landscape is also part of the Holedeč forest educational trail. This consists of two circular routes, each 4 km long. Both routes run mainly through pine forests and along the sunny Na Pískách meadow, where rare steppe plants grow. The two circular routes of equal length help you clearly distinguish the desired route length when planning.
A tourist route also runs through Holedeč, beginning in Holedeček and leading to Výrov. At 509 m above sea level, Výrov is the highest point in Džbán Nature Park. The system of the main field paths in the Na Pískách locality connects Holedeč and Stránky and also serves as a route for pedestrians and cyclists. The educational trail “Forest Wanderings with Hopík” was intended primarily for the recreation and relaxation of forest visitors.
Historical Discoveries with a Special Detail
An unusual addition to the local history is an earring found in Holedeč. It is considered the fifth known example of its kind in Bohemia. Such individual finds and the preserved buildings give the study of Holedeč an additional historical dimension.
