Lipno – Castle, Church and Nature Trail

In the centre of Lipno, a Baroque agricultural complex with a castle has been preserved. The castle of the complex was converted from a Gothic fortress in the second half of the 17th century. The entire castle complex of Lipno at house no. 1 is protected as a cultural monument. In addition to the castle, it includes the granary, administrative building, hop-drying kiln, barns, stable and garden. The heritage protection therefore covers several different parts of the buildings and the garden belonging to the same complex. The castle complex thus represents a multi-part historic site rather than just a single castle building.

The St. Wenceslas Church complex complements Lipno’s historic character. It consists of a Baroque church of Gothic origin, an old cemetery and an enclosing wall. Thus, in addition to the castle complex, ecclesiastical architecture, a cemetery and the preserved enclosure are available as independent elements of the locality’s history. The combination of a religious building, cemetery and wall creates a different emphasis from the agriculturally oriented castle complex.

Nature Trail near Lipenec

In the vicinity of Lipno, Údolí Hasiny u Lipence is designated as a nature monument. The Údolí Hasiny u Lipence nature trail is located there; it is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and has 10 stations. It begins behind Lipenec on the right-hand side of the Louny–Žatec road. This gives you a documented starting point, approximate length and number of stations for planning purposes. The stations present local geology through Mesozoic marine deposits with imprints of cephalopods and sea urchins, including shark remains, as well as older fossil imprints of various plant parts.
