The present-day church in Chožov was built in 1838 and does not display any particular architectural style. The earlier church in Chožov, by contrast, had a Baroque form; however, individual building elements indicate that it is of considerable age. For the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Chožov, the brothers Jan and Záviš from Chodžov appointed priests between 1370 and 1379. These three details make the local church history particularly multifaceted: they combine a clearly dated building, Baroque architectural language and a documented medieval period.

Protected Landscape and Chožovský vrch

The Třtěnské stráně protected area was designated on 20 December 2002 in the cadastral area of Třtěno. Třtěnské stráně are an important area for diurnal butterflies. Northeast of Třtěno there are also the so-called Bílé stráně, with thermophilous flora. Anyone interested in observing nature will find different landscape themes here that are clearly distinct from one another.

The 350 m-high Chožovský vrch rises above the municipality. Remains of a fortification of unknown origin can still be seen on its summit. Stáj Smrčka offers a completely different facet: training for riders and horses is provided there in Chožov under the guidance of Kamil or Jakub Smrčka.

Historical Sites in Třtěno

Třtěno is home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1722. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also located there; it was built in 1870 at the municipality’s expense. A small Baroque château with a chapel inside is also part of the local landscape; today, it is in very poor condition. The three buildings illustrate different forms of historical remembrance, from the statue and the religious building to the secular structure with its own chapel.

Mnichovský Týnec and Its Architectural History

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in Mnichovský Týnec was built in 1714. The present-day chapel dates from the second half of the 19th century and is Neogothic. Mnichovský Týnec originally belonged to the Cistercian monastery in Osek and is first mentioned in 1341. This creates another cultural and historical focus for your trip planning, with a long development stretching from the first written reference to the Neogothic chapel.
