Discover Dobroměřice: Church, Bridge and Protected Landscape

Dobroměřice combines traces of church history, an unusual architectural monument and protected landscape. The Church of St. Matthew preserves Gothic wall paintings, while the Inundační most makes the history of the floodplain between Louny and Dobroměřice visible.

Cultural history in Dobroměřice

The Church of St. Matthew in Dobroměřice dates from the second half of the 13th century. It was rebuilt in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries and restored in 1907. The nave contains Gothic wall paintings from the second half of the 14th century. The church therefore preserves more than individual decorative details: its building history extends from the 13th century to the restoration in 1907, while the wall paintings add a distinct feature from the 14th century. Northwest of the church stands the old school No. 5 with a Classicist inscription plaque. The plaque bears the coat of arms of Louny and is dated 1805. On the northeastern village green stands a statue of St. Wenceslas in an enclosed lawn; the saint is depicted in princely clothing with a crown, banner and shield. The depiction of St. Wenceslas with a crown, banner and shield adds a figurative focal point alongside the architecture and inscription plaque.

The Inundační most between Louny and Dobroměřice

The Inundační most between Louny and Dobroměřice was built over the floodplain from 1814 to 1817 and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964. It is 210 metres long, or 272 metres including its approach roads, and has 40 pillars with arches between them. This distinguishes the actual bridge length from the total extent including the approach roads. The arches between the pillars give the structure its recurring pattern.

Protected landscape and bird protection

Most of Dobroměřice lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. Its boundary runs along the local road from Dobroměřice towards Nečichy and Chraberce. The part located within Dobroměřice belongs exclusively to Protection Zone IV. In addition, the area of Dobroměřice lies within a Natura 2000 bird protection area. The protected-area status thus directs attention to the landscape around the village and its birdlife, not only to the built-up areas.

Educational trail and other special places

The Louny–Lužerady educational trail is 5.5 kilometres long and suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. It includes the Rozcestí u Dobroměřic station and leads through the Na Losech garden colony between fields towards České středohoří. Its length provides a clearly defined distance for planning a walk or cycling trip. The transition between the garden colony, fields and the view towards České středohoří gives the route a distinctly scenic character. RC Modelář Dobroměřice also uses a grass airfield for radio-controlled model aircraft; according to the club, flying is currently possible there. The grass runway is 186 metres long and 10 metres wide. The grass airfield adds a different focal point and remains defined as a separate point of interest by its dimensions.
