Above the eastern part of Černouček village square, the late Baroque Church of Saint Bartholomew stands on the site of a former cemetery. The present church was built in the Baroque style between 1769 and 1774. Together with the Hospital Chapel of Saint Joseph in Roudnice nad Labem, it is considered the last domed building in the Podřipsko region. Its history thus combines a clearly dated construction period with a special position within the region’s ecclesiastical architecture.

In front of the gate of the Church of Saint Bartholomew stands an 18th-century statue of Saint John of Nepomuk leading a small boy. The statue was completely restored in 1999 and reinstalled at its original location. Thus, not only the subject itself is part of the village’s history, but also the documented treatment of this monument and its return to its original place.

Remembrance, Archaeology and Literature

A memorial plaque on the birthplace of Jiří Krása commemorates his execution by the Nazis in 1943. Archaeological excavations also took place in Černouček in 1997. The village’s school history likewise leads to a specific individual: the writer J. V. Pleva taught at the school in Černouček in 1929–1930. These three references open up different chronological perspectives on the history of the village.

The Organ as a Detail of the Church

Another precise detail can be found inside the Church of Saint Bartholomew: the organ is housed in a Neo-Romanesque case dating from 1877. The present organ was built by Karel Anton Eisenhut. The organ therefore adds a separate chapter of music history to the older Baroque architectural history. The chronology makes the interior particularly interesting: the Baroque construction period was followed by a later design element in the form of the Neo-Romanesque case, and Karel Anton Eisenhut is also connected with the creation of the present instrument.
