Býčkovice: Culture, Trails and Landscape along the Luční Stream

Býčkovice lies along the Luční Stream on the southeastern edge of the České středohoří, in the lower part of a broad valley. The landscape is characterized by bodies of water, the valley and the surrounding slopes. Historical features are also part of the character of the village.

Cultural Monuments with a Distinctive Character

A late Baroque parish house with a gate has been preserved in Býčkovice. Preserved wayside shrines, known in Czech as Boží muka, are also part of the village landscape. An octagonal tower stands in the eastern part of Velký Újezd Castle; it bears the year 1658, dating the rebuilding.

Cycling and Hiking around Býčkovice

The official cycling route from Ploskovice to Úštěk passes through Býčkovice. It is 25 km long, easy and suitable for trekking bikes. Its length provides a clear framework for a more extended cycling tour, while its easy rating classifies the route as a clearly defined cycling trip. Býčkovice Campsite is 350 m from the nearest bus stop, Býčkovice (náves). This also makes it possible to link the cycling tour with a specific orientation point in the village. The combination of a fixed length, easy rating and suitability for trekking bikes makes it easier to fit the route into your day plan.

The green-marked Býčkovický okruh was designated as a 1.5 km hiking route in 2021. It starts and ends in the village center at the so-called Hroznatova zvonička and leads through the eastern surroundings of Býčkovice. The trail passes the slopes of Vinice and includes two viewpoints as well as several other views of the landscape. At 1.5 km, the loop is a clearly shorter hiking route than the 25 km cycling route. Starting and ending in the village center gives the loop clear geographical boundaries; the slopes of Vinice and the viewpoints also give it a distinct landscape focus. The viewpoints offer possible stopping points along the short route, while the slopes of Vinice shape the trail's landscape. When choosing between the two routes, the route form is relevant in addition to the length: the cycling route leads from Ploskovice to Úštěk, while the Býčkovický okruh starts and ends in the village center and leads through the eastern surroundings of Býčkovice. From Luční Mlýn, you can follow a yellow-marked hiking trail to Velký Újezd Castle. A renovated path also connects Býčkovice with Ploskovice Castle. In this way, short local loops, marked trails and the longer connection between Ploskovice and Úštěk complement one another.

Village Life and Further Destinations

Local traditions are also part of the character of Býčkovice. In the documented year, the Masopust carnival in Býčkovice was held for the third time and was popular with both locals and visitors. Alongside the parish house, wayside shrines, castle details and hiking trails, a local festival is therefore also part of the village's cultural character.
