Dobříň – Floodplain Forest, Culture and Cycling Routes

The pilgrimage and exhibition offer different cultural perspectives: the former focuses on a traditional heritage, while the latter presents the writer’s personal surroundings.

Protected Floodplain Forest and Spring Flora

The Dobříňský háj is designated as a European site of community importance. The area protects mixed floodplain forests with pedunculate oaks, elms and ash trees along major rivers. The natural area therefore combines a typical floodplain landscape with this protected status and is suitable as a distinct focus alongside Dobříň’s cultural attractions.

The spring flora in the Dobříňský háj includes snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis), hollow corydalis (Corydalis cava), spring snowflake (Ficaria bulbifera) and yellow star-of-Bethlehem (Gagea lutea). In spring, these four species provide specific points of interest during a day in nature. Children and adults can observe the plants through their different names and forms, while the protected floodplain forest provides the landscape setting.

Water and Routes for Different Days

Pískovna Dobříň was created when a mined section of one of the Czech Republic’s largest gravel-and-sand pits was flooded. Its origin connects the history of gravel mining with a landscape later transformed into a body of water. Anyone interested in the transformation of working landscapes into bodies of water can experience both aspects in a single location. Pískovna Dobříň is situated near Dobříň railway station, giving it a specific geographical connection to the village.

For cycling, you can compare two route options. The cycling loop between Roudnice nad Labem and Štětí runs, among other places, through Dobřín. The alternative section of the Labská stezka 2A, by contrast, runs from Roudnice nad Labem along the right bank of the Elbe to Štětí. The loop explicitly includes Dobřín in its route, while the alternative section describes the route along the right bank of the Elbe. If you would like to include Dobřín as part of your route when planning, follow the loop; for a route along the right side of the Elbe, the alternative section is the relevant one. This keeps the two geographical focuses clearly separate.
