Zbraslav between History and Landscape

Zbraslav combines a well-documented early history with nature and cultural experiences that can be arranged into different types of travel days. The first written mention dates back to 1222. The Church of St. Giles is located in the centre. It originated as a Romanesque chapel from the 13th century and was expanded into a Gothic church in the 14th century by the addition of a nave and tower. Remains of cross-ribbed vaults have been preserved in the presbytery and sacristy.

Traces of Culture in the Village and Forest

Historical evidence can also be found outside the centre. North of Zbraslav, near the road to Ludvíkov in the Příčnice forest area, stands an expiatory memorial stone with a relief of a Latin cross and the year 1596. The original is kept in the municipality; a copy stands at the original location. There is also a second stone stele with a cross relief nearby.

Further small monuments in the village commemorate the region’s history. The stone wayside shrine at the corner of Školní and Komenského streets bears a relief of Saint Wendelin and the year 1781. At the north-eastern edge of the Zbraslav district, on the road towards Litostrov, stands the pedestal of the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The original statue was stolen, but a replica is in place. At the Hradiště Zbraslav archaeological site, remains point to a former castle belonging to the nobleman Gerhard of Zbraslav from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Nature Trail, Cycling Route and Bílá voda

For active exploration, the Zbraslav nature trail offers seven information panels about natural and historical sights. Motýlí stráň is one of the natural attractions along the trail. Those wishing to explore Zbraslav by bicycle can include the themed Hornická No. 5199 circular cycling route in their travel plans. It runs through the Zbraslav area, from the Oslava Valley to Bílý potok, and passes through the former Rosicko-Oslavansko hard-coal mining district. The district’s historical character is therefore an integral part of the route description.

The floodplain of the Bílá voda River is designated as a significant landscape feature. Its valley also contains important spring areas within level 2 water-protection zones. These distinctive features give the landscape its own character, without implying any additional access or usage possibilities.

Winter Option and Getting There

A specific reservation is also important for a winter trip: the Zbraslav ski area uses natural snow, so the winter season depends on snow conditions. Another option for an activity-oriented stay is a visit to the Karolína riding stable.

Zbraslav is served by IDS JMK bus services and has four bus stops. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider the local transport connections alongside your preferred cultural and landscape experiences.
