Synalov Between Rocky Landscapes and Village History

Synalov combines impressive gneiss landscapes with a remarkable village center and traces of cultural history. Particularly characteristic are the Synalovské kopaniny: their upper slopes extend southwards from Sýkoř towards Synalov and lie at elevations of 554 to 672 m. Exposed gneiss blocks form one of the longest block streams in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

Protected landscapes around Synalov

One of the prominent natural destinations is Horní Židovka, a protected natural monument in the cadastral area of Synalov. The rocky gneiss ridge features frost cliffs up to 10 m high, making the geological character of the surroundings immediately visible. The rocky ridge of Klášterce also extends from Synalov towards Lomnice.

The Míchovec natural monument lies in the cadastral areas of Běleč and Synalov. It features frost cliffs, block screes formed by rockfalls, nivation hollows, and fissure caves. Pod Sýkořskou myslivnou presents a different type of landscape: this 25-hectare nature reserve lies in the cadastral area of Synalov.

Pilský rybníček lies in the Besének valley between Synalov and Strhaře. This protected system of a pond and millrace provides a habitat for rare aquatic plants and is also an exceptional spawning site for amphibians. The surroundings therefore protect both dry rock formations and a water-dominated habitat.

Castle, Village Center, and Regional History

The ruins of Osiky Castle lie mostly in the cadastral area of Synalov and are protected as a cultural monument. A newer footpath provides access to the castle grounds. In the village itself, the Okrouhlice forms a distinctive historic center: it consists of seven large farmsteads arranged in a circle around the central village square. Houses featuring the original folk architecture of the Podhorácko region have also been preserved in Synalov.

Another visible testimony to the village's history is the Chapel of the Guardian Angels, built in 1883. The combination of protected nature, rural architecture, and a protected cultural monument makes Synalov a destination where landscape and history cannot be considered separately.

Trails and Recurring Events

For orientation in the landscape, the Jára Cimrman educational trail is a good choice. It follows a yellow tourist trail marking from Lomnice u Tišnova to the hut below Sýkoř. One stop along the route, at the Pod Synalovem signpost, is dedicated to Cimrman's Plostika. The trail thus combines movement through the landscape with a themed discovery along the route.

Regular events also shape village life. The Andělů strážných pilgrimage takes place in Synalov every year on the first Sunday in September. The “O Synalovský pohár” pétanque tournament is also held annually. Depending on the time of your visit, such events can add a cultural or social focus without overshadowing the area's natural destinations.
